HORRIBLE - Have been to Mcwewn's many time over the past two years that my son has attended Ole Miss. Something at Mcewen's has gone terribly wrong. The last two times we went the food, and most of all service, was severely sub par. The waiter must have been drugged - took forever to take our order and was speeding around the restaurant like he was on something - pupils dilated and all. We ordered two appetizers and entrees. After about an hour the entrees came and we asked about the appetizers he said "Oh we gave that to another table - you don't want it anymore, right?" We guessed not at this point. The food was cold - the lamb beginning to congeal on the plates. We were never offered additional drinks (we were with a group of 6 and were having wine, and other cocktails). Those who wanted something else had to leave the table and walk up to the bar and order because we could get no service at our table.
Everything is horrible about this place - the service, the management, and the food is honestly not that great.
Mcewen's is only there because it is already there. We are...
Read moreExcellent dining experience, was able to enjoy the food with a company team while visiting for an on-site in Oxford. My experience was that the food was carefully prepared (I docked 1-star for slightly medium-rare pork tenderloin), well complimented by the sides and a good drink list (including local selections of beer and wine).
Our server was professional but clearly distracted, having asked a few of us for a drink order after we had it provided it to him only a minute prior. His push for the Chilean Sea Bass seemed a bit aggressive, if not comedic, though we were able to say no and move on. The food that came to the table was masterfully plated and prepared so the kitchen for sure made up for the minor service considerations.
All in all, well worth the meal if you're in town, would 100% return in the future if/when I'm...
Read more3 entrees, 1 appetizer and 2 desserts for 3 adult males. Service was very good but not exceptional. For the atmosphere and price, you would like to see more service personnel contributing than just the waiter or waitress. Entrees were the duck, their version of shrimp and grits and the steak special. Appetizer was oysters and desserts were bread pudding and banana creme pie. All 3 entrees were exceptional. Good food, well prepared and artfully presented. Appetizer was very good. The table bread was a basket of small biscuits that were wonderful. Desserts were good, but large and more sweet than flavorful, better suited to a Sunday home meal than the cap of a nice meal during the week. Better than a 4 but probably not a...
