The biggest Yelp mistake we've made so far.
Okay, so Page is small, it has a few restaurants, but most close pretty soon. Bonkers was still open and it had awesome reviews on Yelp (mostly 5 and 4 stars). What could go wrong, right? It must be really good. It was our mistake that we only checked the first few reviews on the site (which were 5 or 4 stars - probably made by the locals who, judging by the reviews, don't ever step out of Page and this restaurant is top of the world to them). Never had we been more sorry not to check the 1, 2 or 3 stars as well.
So in we go. The place looks a bit old and run down, but the looks can be deceiving. I guess the regulars and the staff don't care all that much about it. We get a table and order the drinks and dive into the menu. Prices are steep, but okay, if the food is good, I don't see a problem with that. Too bad that's not the case here. They just exploit the fact that most tourists pass through here or even stay overnight.
Husband orders Bruschettas and I order gluten-free Garlic Bread for starters. Bruschettas were decent, Garlic Bread was something that I would make in a hurry and throw on a first plate that came my way, for someone I really disliked. It was just an ordinary gluten-free toast (that you buy in the nearest Safeway), sparkled with some cheese. Seriously... you could have at least tried.
Then we order a medium rare Filet Mignon (sides: potato and a salad) and gluten-free Penne with Shrimp Pesto. Biggest mistake ever! The cook should have apologized to that cow! The steak was well done and we didn't even finish it. Potato was okay (you can't really mess that one up, can you?), but the salad never came. Penne were overcooked and there was no sign of pesto on my plate. There was some garlic shredded all over and Penne were swimming in liquid (I'm guessing from oil and shrimps). I won't even try to describe the shrimps.
We skipped the desert, because we were so disappointed at that point that we just wanted to leave. Our waitress brought the check (for $100 and something - we only ordered one glass of wine and an orange juice, so you can get the picture) and the salad was on it, so we disputed it. She didn't even apologize, but feigned surprise ("Oh, nobody brought it?" - well, it was your job to do that, not ours). Luckily we weren't one of those unlucky customers that got the Suggested Service Fee already on the check (check some other Yelp reviews here to see what I'm talking about), because we wouldn't have paid it.
Horrible. Avoid at all costs. Save money and spend it...
Read moreDon’t let the name fool you, this is an exceptional resto in a town with many less than worthy such eateries of any cuisine. Bonkers is a standout! By the way, the name does not lead you to grasp it being a seriously, genuinely good, authentic and tasty Italian fare! Its an attention getter alright, and its interior décor lacks most of the traditional Italo-American restaurant accoutréments and décor so common throughout the country like Romanesque columns and urns, fountains or murals – it respectively and nicely depicts with paintings the surrounding area’s geography and natural wonders. We spent an enjoyable late afternoon dinner which started with a fairly good Bruschetta with their homemade Tuscany Bread covered with juicy tomato, with the right amount of garlic, basil, and parmesan cheese along with a fresh green house salad that included fresh tomato, cucumber, delectable pepperoncini and perfectly seasoned croutons. For our mains, I chose one of my fave dishes, their rendition of Veal Marsala of very tender and moist, medium cut mutton cutlets, that were perfectly sautéed in delicate mushrooms with garlic and marsala sauce. My better half selected the Pork Loin Chops dinner, prepared with pan seared along with mushrooms, fresh herbs, obviously garlic and butter sauce – unfortunately the cook must have miscalculated the amount of salt in the sauce, it was sent back with no questions asked, and replaced with something else – a true show of a customer first service and attention. Her replacement was the Linguini Pasta simmered in their house made marinara. We both agreed, their marinara sauce is incredible! It has been very few Italian restaurants where we’ve actually been impressed with an excellent marinara sauce – delectable and exquisite! Overall, this is must when in Page and in the mood for Italian. Thank you, Chef/Owner A.J. Blakely, the food, the atmosphere, the cooking and the service are terrific and worth returning to over, and over again. Grandi...
Read moreWell we decided to try the Crazy name good cuisine restaurant and overall we were happy with the experience, but it was a little misleading. The setup is to make you feel like your at the Canyon but at a Italian food restaurant, so not sure how long it has been in business but it could use a little upto dating, not sure of rhe look they have was on purpose but the lighting should be upgraded to match the cuisine! The service was good, but like most places unfortunately I think they have a shortage on servers, but our waitress was running around trying her best, and she did a great job! They do offer complimentary bread , so I heard, because we were never offered any, so that would have been great to have that option presented to our party! The menu is small but well rounded that there should be something that will make most tummies happy. The pricing was up there with some fancier restaurants i have been to, but its not ferociously viscous that you can't appreciate your meal. Now the food we ordered was pretty darn good! We were caught off guard that it was actually alot better that we thought and what we had read about, so that was a plus. We did save room for dessert and once again it was a delight 😋, very pleased with that as well, as well with the overall experience 😀 I'm sure they will continue to get better in the coming months as they perfect their craft and as we as society get back to a regular way of life!! Please don't forget to tip your servers, even if they aren't the best, they are working under very stressful times and it can become overwhelming having to serve ungrateful patrons!! I say this because I have kids that are in the restaurant business and I hear the frustration, so please remember to be kind to all, but most importantly remember to Be safe, have fun,...
