I’m a coffee guy that doesn’t review much if ever, but this calls for a review.
Great concept.
The coffee shop side of it is either an afterthought or a cash grab intended to bring people into the store for books and records.
My first interaction with the barista was that of them telling me to wait.
A simple question about what brand/type of oat milk they’re using was something that needed their full undivided attention to respond to and once again, I was told to wait. (In an unfriendly and rude manner, zero customer service)
Then a woman who seemed have appeared from nowhere tells me they are using the Aldi brand oat milk.
Generic plant milks are always an instant red flag as to the type of coffee shop you are at.
Generally speaking, a quality coffee shop will use Califia Farms Barista blend or minor figures.
A good barista knows the quality of the milk has a significant impact on the outcome of the drink.
Lower quality milks prevent the barista from texturing the milk and giving us the velvet creamy texture desire when spending $6.00+ on a drink.
To summarize unless you’re getting straight up espresso over ice, its not...
Read moreKnowing this café is in a tourist trap area, I kept expectations low. What cafe opens so late at 9am. This place tries to be a cafe and record store and fails at both. The latte was overly sweet sugar water and not what I would consider large. Why no cayenne pepper to make a mexican mocha. Any non chain cafe will have that.
The lid is the dumbest cheapest flimsiest design I have ever seen. I had to take the lid off to get the sip lift up and then there is no way to keep it back so someone with facial hair is going to have the sip cover interfere with drinking so just remove lid completely. You can push cover down but it pops up unless you really push down and get it to bend and get your finger wet.
The very young barista was neutral, not unfriendly but at a vintage cafe I would have someone older and chattier. The place felt more dumpy than vintage and I am old enough to remember records. Small record selection, $5 records. Revivals a thrift store has similar selection. Pass on this place, there are much better record stores and cafes within 2 miles. Props to the vintage concert poster wall. ...
Read moreI was just wondering around downtown Palm Springs the other day when I came upon this wonderful little business. I did not need to take a meal, although the mene will have something for you. But the production design was so cool. Photos of the old days of Hollywood, flyers advertising rock concerts from the day, vintage magazines, and records. Classic vinyl. Good old rock and roll. Well, I immediately got melancholy. And when I get melancholy It triggers all these wonderful memories. Because I was there. I lived this stuff. This is my comfort zone. This wonderful friendly place with all these wonderful people. So go check out this cozy cafe and maybe, just maybe, you'll get...
