I have been coming here for years, at least twice each week. That said, there is an older gentleman/customer who appears lonely and spends a lot of time, particularly afternoons, in this establishment. I have talked to him before just to be friendly. Little did I know he is not well and tends to bother some of the customers.
This afternoon, 5/19/13 around 4:45 p.m. I had probably the worst experience at any restaurant in my entire life. Apparently the older man gets upset if one doesn't engage in conversations with him. I tried to ignore him but he saw me and came all the way across the restaurant and to my table. He was angry and raised his voice at me while I enjoyed a relaxing pot roast by myself. As he yelled in anger with horrible insults, I asked one of the workers if he could get the manager to get him away from me. She said manager was on his way. Even the employee realized the man was out of control and seemed helpless. The older man continued with his abuse, and loud enough so everyone could hear him. I told him to leave or I would call the police, which made him even more angry. I asked the waitress one more time if he could get the manager "now" to take care of him or get him away from me. She said again manager was on his way. The manager was behind the counter watching the situation unfold, we even made eye contact but he never bothered to come over to help me or fix the situation. The man continued shouting and insulting me. At that point I opted to just leave the establishment rather than continue to be humiliated by this sick person, and not getting any help from the staff to protect me.
The man followed me to the parking lot with all kinds of insults. I was surprise management did not do anything to stop this situation, even as I almost begged the worker to get her manager. Prior to exiting the restaurant I told the worker I'd like to get my money back. With the man yelling at my face I wasn't even able to do this, but I will be calling my credit card company first thing tomorrow.
I am hoping the OWNER of this restaurant reads this review and makes an effort to contact me and apologize over this horrible incident. I cannot be upset at the crazy man as there's crazy people everywhere, plus I didn't see it coming. However, I am flabbergasted by the lack of action taken by management while this incident unfolded.
I have recommended this place to a LOT of people with all kinds of glowing reviews on every social media, and as frequently as I come here I am bewildered by the lack of empathy by the staff.
UPDATE 5/20/13 - I went there w/receipt today to get my money back for the dinner I could not enjoy yesterday. Manager was rude and arrogant saying he does not get involved and that whatever dispute I had with the older gentleman is between me and him. One reason he said that is because he is friends with the older abusive man, as I've seen them chat for long periods of time while I'm there. I explained to him I don't even know who he is to begin with, all I wanted was someone from the restaurant to get the older man from verbally abusing me. He shrugged his shoulders in a cowardly and dismissive manner. Manager clearly said we were both customers even if the other one was abusing me. At that point I let him know that sounded stupid and I would never be coming back or recommend this restaurant to...
Read moreIn Palm Springs you'll find John's, open for breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.
It was our first time here, we came in looking for breakfast, at the entrance you'll find the Newspaper Box (for free) I thought that was quite a touch, an addition to a new-world 50's style of dinning, Palm Springs Old-Fashion type of ambience.
When you first come in you order directly at the front counter where one of the staff members will take your order & also be able to make recommendations (particularly our greeter was not having a good day, I think.. there personally was a slight attitude problem, can't say with confidence).
Good experience other than that one which was the first contact as a customer, the staff members going around to tables dropping food orders were the nicest, same ones who will be pouring your coffee, fantastic service I thought to myself to particularly not have a waiter assigned just to us.
Food was great, you'll find the condiments on the table, coffee will be a medium roast, H20 will be Coachella Valleys finest.
To go boxes are stacked for you to grab on the side counter, there is a patio seating area for winter time. Great views of S Palm Canyon & the San Jacinto Mountain 🏔️
Excellent booth options for having breakfast when here. Anticipate scarce parking, & busy mornings.
Forgot to mention bring cash to tip extra, when ordering the screen will prompt you asking for a service charge, however there is an excellent service provided by those running food & coffee, FYI, not to mention great prices & great...
Read moreWe've ordered many times from here for pick up and these past few times it's been as if no one seems to care anymore. First, we ordered onion rings along with our meals and while eating our onion rings , there was a really long hair wrapped around the onion itself... disgusting. On a different day, while preparing meals, we witnessed one of the girls scratching at the male employees back... disgusting, they are touching and being unsanitary and touching our food!. This last time, the girl with the extremely large fake eyelashes who gave us our food was extremely rude for no reason. She was asked if there was ranch in the bag and she walked away, she was asked again since we didn't see any and she very disrespectful yelled yes it's there, when we get home with our food guess what... no ranch. Employees are more worried about scoring with eachother that they can't do their job right. If they dont want their job then maybe they should just not show up. Hard earned money being spent here to have the rude Employees be gross with our...
