Updating my 2-Star review from 3 years ago when the bar first opened...
Drinks are now much better compared to when the bar originally opened, where the original bar manager (who I don't think was a Tiki drink aficionado) tried to put his own twist on classic Tiki drinks and basically made these classics taste weirdly OFF or just plain worse - One of the biggest No-Nos and blasphemy in the underground Tiki scene. So while the new menu is now better, I would like to see a more traditional "Rum Only" drink menu instead of trying to please everyone with drinks using Tequila, Vodka or Whisky main ingredient variants - You're a Tiki Bar - STICK TO RUM DRINKS! THATS WHY WE COME HERE!
The ambiance has improved SLIGHTLY - When the bar first opened years ago it was eye watering bright inside, whereas traditional Tiki bars are darker to create a relaxing moody environment. Glad to see the lights have been toned down! My only gripe is the bar is still playing random club music which KILLS THE TIKI ESCAPISM VIBE! Bar needs to add a rotation of chill Hawaiian & Polynesian music, surf rock, classic 50s like Elvis or The Ventures surf guitar, etc. Completely STOP IT with the awful bumping club music for God's sake IT DOES NOT FIT THE ENVIRONMENT!
REVISING MY REVIEW FROM 2-STARS UP TO 3 STARS - FIX THE ABOVE ISSUES AND I WILL HAPPILY GIVE 4+ STARS FOR DOING THE NECESSARY WORK TO MAKE YOUR BAR FALL IN LINE WITH THE DRINK MENU QUALITY & PROPER ATMOSPHERE OF SOME OF THE OTHER BEST RATED TIKI BARS...
Read moreDate: 8/22/25 Time: 5:00 p.m. This was my first time visiting, and overall, the experience was very positive. The food was great, and the service—especially given the circumstances—was excellent. Our waitress, Justice, did an outstanding job. She was managing three different sections: one with five guests, another with sixteen, and a third with ten. Despite the heavy workload, she remained attentive and professional throughout. What stood out to me, however, was that while Justice was clearly overwhelmed, I noticed other waitstaff not actively assisting—some were simply sitting and not contributing. In a corporate environment, this kind of inaction while on the clock might be considered time theft. More concerning is that these individuals may still receive a share of the pooled tips, despite not pulling their weight. Suggestion: Management might consider adjusting how tips are distributed or implementing a system that encourages more balanced teamwork during busy shifts. Recognizing and rewarding those who go above and beyond, like Justice, would help foster a fairer and more motivated work...
Read moreMy friends and I got to go check out this great new place in Paso Robles. Cane Tiki Room… It has a real cool vibe, and a friendly staff… Although our bartender was very slow, and seemed to be a little confused about what he was doing (chalk it up to probably new to the job). We weren’t able to try the food yet, but all agreed it looked amazing. We only had a short time there, and we really wanted to try the Mai Tai. It was not a traditional Mai Tai like we were all expecting/hoping for 😭 It wasn’t horrible, just not what we were craving from a cool new Tiki bar… It had a lot of mint and half an already squeezed lime as a garnish. I’ve never seen a Mai Tai like that, and I’ve had many of them from all over the country. It was more reminiscent of some sort of Mojito instead of a Mai Tai, and we were sadly left wanting that familiar dark rum flavor, of the traditional Mai Tai. We will definitely go back, and try other things… Hopefully they add a traditional Mai Tai with the dark rum to the menu very soon. Until then, my friends and I will have to find another...
