Came in for lunch with my fiancee. Ordered tacos, the potato tacos for her, the pork belly, duck pastor, and octopus for me. She had a bottled ice tea (good choice with Harney & Sons, great teas), and i had the spritzer.
The food was phenomenal. Absolutely loved what you guys are doing with flavours, and I do plan to return to try other menu items (albeit as takeout only). The duck and the pulpo especially were fantastic. So good. The crunch and the cheese pull on the potato and gruyere tacos, with that crema? Grub as hell. Killer bite.
The cocktail I tried was also an excellent sip, wonderful balance and mouthfeel.
I have two minor quibbles with the food. The first is you have these absolutely killer meats and they're on a cold tortilla. If that's the vision, cool, but a little toast or color on those excellent tortillas would make the tacos hit that much harder (my opinion, I'll not die on this hill lol). The second was the irony of the pork belly taco, being the least expensive of the three I tried, feeling like the meanest portion. There really wasn't much there (what was there tasted great), the portion I got looked nothing like the photos I had checked out prior to coming in and there was no trace of the chicharron.
Now for the genuinely negative portion of my thoughts. On entry it was pretty clear that it was Order at counter and take a number, the girl on the register was polite but not especially forthcoming unless a direct question was phrased. Not much effort to suggest or build the tab. It isn't terrible, I get that not everyone does people well and I try to have mercy. That said, it did set something of a tone for the meal. My fiancee and I picked what looked like the cleanest available table outside, and still had to wipe it ourselves because whatever was on the table had had a chance to dry. Thankfully that was made easier because the runner wordlessly planted my drink down in front of my fiancee hard enough to slosh some onto the table. The extra moisture was helpful in getting off the last of whatever sauce had dried there. I also clocked that the bus tubs outside hadnt been moved in probably an hour given the pace of tables being turned while I was there, and I'd guess the trash hadn't been looked at all day because those cans were full when we bussed our dishes and threw away our trash.
Maybe it's just an off Monday, maybe you were short staffed, I dont know. But the amazing effort being put forth by the kitchen isn't matched by your FoH, and for $73 after tax and tip - as far as an experience goes? Lackluster. No one wants to sit at a dirty table, looking at dirty dishes and a trash can flap that can't close because it's full. Shame, because it honestly was some of the best food I've had this year.
To anyone considering Finca: don't hesitate, it really is that damn good. Just get it to go and enjoy it...
Read moreFinca is a quaint place to stop to get non traditional tacos. If you are on a quest for something a little more unconventional, this is your place. Situated in the Paso Market Walk, there are a multiple of fun grab and gos but Finca is outside the main walk and it's worth the stop. We ordered the ceviche, pork belly tacos, and chips and salsa. Yes we were hungry, don't judge! The ceviche is made fresh with what they have purchased so at the time we had it was salmon. I know what you are thinking - salmon?! Right? Us too but it was delish. Very light and citrus forward which is what you would want in a ceviche. The pork belly tacos were flavorful and were more Chile Verde style. And the chips were fresh made along with a red and green salsa which both brought a little punch to your plalate. Our friends had the potato taco which was different and fabulous - think crispy taco shell with ooowie gooyie melted cheese and mashed potatoes. I know what you are thinking - huh? But it works and it's good. The veranda is a fantastic place to relax and enjoy the food and company. If you are stopping in Paso for the weekend or anytime, you should mosey on over to Fincas to enjoy the surroundings...
Read moreI’m amazed at the bad reviews and how people feel it’s overpriced and how Taco Bell would offer larger quantities. What??!! Then go there for goodness sake. Why go to a fresh ingredients and home made recipes restaurant? So let me say that I was passing by Paso Robles and sought out this place based on Condé Nast & yes, spot on! There were little surprises in our food selections like the tarragon inside the guacamole & freshly made chips, woah! And the spiced peanut sauces over the octopus topped by dill & cilantro & tiny crunchy quinoa - hello!! The salads! What flavors in the Sunny Boy salad with that gorgeous & large endive leaves tossed in that delicate citrus dressing, slivers of dates & my favorite nut (hazelnut) and pieces of goat cheese scattered throughout. Yummm. The Ranchero also gorgeous and refreshing. Seriously?! So good. Stephanie, it was nice making your acquaintance & if I’m ever back in Paso Robles, you know I’ll be there to visit you! Highly recommend Finca. Keep up the great work and your love for beautiful food! I will send you that recipe I promised you for the...
