This place is definitely worth a visit. Those who read my reviews know that I almost never give 5 stars, but I would have for this place except for a couple of minor issues. Let's start with the good. We met the owner, and he seems like a good guy. Kind and friendly, as were all of his staff. The wine was superb, and reasonably priced. My two guests and I shared a bottle. The fries were excellent; perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside, soft in the middle. One of my guests enjoyed the spicy ketchup they came with, but my other guest and I stuck with the ranch. Honestly, they don't need much dipping sauce. My guest thoroughly enjoyed their entrees, one had one of the macaroni and cheese dishes and the other had the chicken salad. My guest who had the chicken salad even had about half of it to take home with her because it was a generous portion. Sadly, I don't think that I can try their macaroni and cheese because they appear to use truffle oil, and I'm allergic to mushrooms (I'm not sure if that extends to truffles) but it's a good culinary choice. The bananas foster bread pudding was out of this world good. Now to the only negatives, with some understanding. My entree, the tri-tip sandwich, was alright but underwhelming. It didn't have much sauce, and I didn't ask for more sauce because I wasn't impressed with the sauce. The meat itself was at least tender and juicy. The chips (the side I chose) were boring, and half of them were chewy. The seating is all outdoors, and that's fine if it's not chilly or sweltering. It was a chilly evening when we went, but it wasn't a big negative. The only other negative is that you have to stand in line to order, and they don't want you to sit at the tables before you order. However, no one raised any problems for me when I sat down while my guests ordered for all of us. I'm disabled, and just can't stand in a line that long. They were able to take our dessert orders at the table, so at least I didn't have to stand in line for that. All in all, we'll probably go back at a time when the weather is better. It was a...
Read moreJeffry's delivers stupid good Q (that means really darn good). Everything we had was delicious but the true stars were the Pork Bahn Mi which, while definitely not a traditional bahn mi is succulent, tangy with the perfect hint of heat. Each bite was simply a flavor bomb.
The other standout (again everything was delicious) was the Paso Mac'n'Cheese. My wife will swear on a stack of Good Books that I don't suffer mediocre Mac. Every Mac I eat gets compared to my mother's home made and always comes up short...until now. Jeffry's Paso Mac is straight up legit. It has a ton of cheese yet avoids the cardinal sin of most macs and isn't soupy at all. The addition of perfectly cooked tri tip bites seals the deal. Step up to the plate mom, you have some real competition from Jeffrey.
In addition to the excellent meal I have to give a shout out to Kathleen (the owner) and Amber who, despite being swamped on a Friday night were super friendly and available to top off our drinks at our table (it's counter service so you normally would have to wait in line again to order more).
Enthusiastic thumbs up for Jeffry's!
Update 12/18/2023: We drive between San Diego and Monterey 4-5 times/year and we always make it a point to stop in Paso Robles so we can grab a bite at Jeffrey's. The salmon tacos are a new favorite of mine. Perfectly grilled salmon and they must be making the corn tortillas in house or have a great local source because they were fresh and perfectly grilled. The smoked chicken salad is also...
Read moreWhile on vacation in Paso Robles, the family and I were looking for a good spot to sit down and get something to eat. Jeffry's is located off an alleyway and can be hard to find but use Google Maps and you should be fine. We have little ones and wanted them to sit while we ordered all our food as you order at the counter. While a party was leaving, we told the kids to have a seat so we could order what would feed all of us. We were told by the female owner (Kathleen) that we were not to sit down because we had to order first and so they could "clean" the table. That would have been fine but the owner was somewhat rude, had no smile on her face and acted as if we were taking a paying diners table. Kinda felt as if we were discriminated against by the way she stared and immediately approached my family and I.
We got back up with all the kids and waiting line and ordered what we knew the kids would eat. We ordered the sampler platter for 45 and added a half rack of ribs for 20 and large Mac and cheese for 24. Portions are definitely lacking for what you pay. A half rack of ribs looked like they would feed my eight year old only. Mac and cheese was sub par and not world famous as they claim. All in all we came away from this place with a sub-par experience. Paid over 100+ for ok food, poor service from the female owner. An overall a place we would not visit again. The prices do not justify the service or food you get in our experience. Definitely try another restaurant...
