We got take-out dinner from Furama tonight. I was happy to see that the Chinese restaurant that had been there for decades had re-opened with a bright new decor, new management, and a new menu. We had stopped going to the previous restaurant many years ago, since the food had been quite mediocre. I really wanted Furama to be good, even just above average, so that there would be a decent Chinese restaurant in the neighborhood, to complement the terrific Vietnamese and Thai restaurants on this block.
Unfortunately, the food we got was really quite disappointing. The spring rolls were extremely greasy with not much filling. The Hot and Sour soup was neither hot nor sour, just a really bland cornstarch-thickened broth. The eggplant with garlic sauce was supposedly "spicy," but it had no taste of garlic or any other spices. Perhaps most disappointing was the chicken dish we ordered. The chicken did not taste like it had been freshly made, but rather it had the texture and taste of something frozen that had been reheated.
If this restaurant is going to have any chance of succeeding, the chef is going to need to get some help to make the food more tasty...
Read more100% would recommended. Overall, I think this is by far the most diverse dim sum I’ve ever been to. There are many new dishes that are unique and innovative that you’d usually don’t see in typical yum cha restaurants. I went with my mom and her friend and we enjoyed everything that we ordered. The service provided was really great; the waitresses attend to your table and provide you great service when it comes to food. We ordered a 流沙包,which is a Pineapple Custard Bun but translates into QuickSand Bun. The custard was runny and oozing which tasted great! As for all their dim sum dishes, they’re all made fresh from the kitchen. The restaurant has a main dominance of Toisan/Taishan (part of Canto dialect) workers and some Mandarin speakers! Don’t be frightened if you don’t speak chinese, many of the workers speak English and will help you with providing service! As a Canto/Toishan, I’m pretty impressed. Will definitely...
Read moreZERO STAR!!! BEWARE!! DO NOT EAT IN THIS PLACE! We ordered the half chicken, it came out with a lot of hairs. We sent it back, and it came out with a lot of hairs again. The server barely speaks english. Not once did they ask how the food was. They dont even refill the water, yet they asked for more tips after I gave 10%( which i think is appropriate for the poor service). Not to mention the price. I ordered a soup, sweet n sour pork, and a half fried chicken, as well as 3 dimsum, and we spent $109. I think they overcharge items on my bill, which is why I asked for a receipt, and they dont want to give it to us. All i got is a writing in mandarin. Again, DONT COME...
