This review should be five star but there was a glitch. Had reservations for my husbands birthday. The restaurant is tiny with a full view of the kitchen. The chef and sous were hard at work clearly preparing each dish specifically as ordered. There were two servers - perhaps needed more. We were seated in the front corner and given water immediately. 10 minutes later the waitress arrived to go over the menu. Another 10 minutes she came back for our order. Appetizers came; Lobster and scallops. Three scallops were cooked to perfection and perhaps the sweetest I have ever had. The lobster was two "bites" on a crisp rice tortilla, topped with wasabi and radish - heaven. The waitress never stopped at for table to check on us. They did stop at the tables next to us but because of the flow in the room never got to our corner. Entree came; Madai (which was actually a first-course item) and Halibut. The halibut was charred beautifully and was served with a mix of in-season veggies. The Madai was not so good. Thinly sliced Madai with Foie Gras over a bed of greens. The Madai had been seared on one side and served cold (unexpected). The Foie Gras was cut into large pieces and also served cold. The dressing included roasted pistachios and had great flavor. However, I could not chew the fish, it was so tough. But what makes for the four-star review was the fact that I could not get the waitresses attention. Both waitresses were at tables on either side of us but walked away as soon as I raised my hand or said, "excuse me". It took so long to get her attention that my husband was finished eating by the time she asked if I would like something else. We didn't want to wait the time involved in a new entree - so I left hungry. :( They did take the price of the Madai off the bill but I am still disappointed in the service. I would like to try it again but Little Fish isn't in our...
Read moreWe love Little Fish, and have been going there for many years. We've always had a great experience, with wonderful food and excellent service. Unfortunately, last night, we had a very negative service experience, though the food was still amazing. We wanted a nice meal for a family celebration, but we didn't have a babysitter, and with a toddler and a preschooler, eating at the restaurant didn't seem a good options. Friends of ours used to get take-out from Little Fish once a week, so we thought we'd call to see if we could do that. The woman who answered the phone was unfriendly to the point of being rude, and told me that "we're not really a take-out restaurant." I'm sure I have been going there since before she was hired, so I told her that I was very familiar with the restaurant and that we knew friends had gotten take-out from there before. She went to ask the kitchen, and of course they said yes. Unfortunately, this woman continued with the negative attitude. Instead of explaining the menu to me in detail, she just told me the four types of fish in the different appetizers and entrees -- no description of what went with them. My dad went to the restaurant to figure out how the various types of fish would be prepared, and she gave him even more attitude, telling him they couldn't do certain types of dishes for take-out because they had broth in them -- even though the take-out containers are at least 4 inches deep. Little Fish, I know you can do better than this! We would have been totally fine if she'd said politely that they weren't able to offer take out, but to agree to serve us and then repeatedly treat us as if we're unwelcome intruders is a far lower level of service than I've ever experienced at the restaurant. I hope you'll retrain this server or hire someone else who can provide the level of service to which...
Read moreYes, 5 stars across the board! My new BFF’s are the team at Little Fish. They have a spot on trifecta…fresh, delicious, creative food (that you crave after you are done, truly), attentive and fun service, along with an atmosphere that makes you feel like you are at a dinner party in Chef Alex’s home. I am blessed to have had many years experience in dining around the world, so you can trust me when I say Little Fish is well worth your time and is a damn good value. My husband and I were visiting Philadelphia for a few days for fun and Little Fish was our first choice for dinner. We loved it so much that we went back the next night. We had the tasting menu the first night, every dish was creative, fresh and succulent. The quality of the food and the amount of food you get is truly an excellent value. The next night we had the rest of the menu and a few repeats that I still crave! Well done Chef! Thank yo! As for the service, they are all attentive, friendly, engaging, and fun. Aryn, as their fearless leader is full of energy, very knowledgeable of the food, and is thoughtful with her opinions, and has a great sense of humor. She made celebrating my birthday so much more fun. Maybe next time she will sing happy birthday? Last but not least, the atmosphere is cozy but not crowded. With the open kitchen, you do get a nice homey feeling. There is an ice bucket at each table that is ready and waiting for you (love me a good BYOB)! Cheers to Chef Alex and his team for an amazing experience…twice! We cannot wait to come back. PS. What you pay per person depends if you do the tasting menu ($100+)or a la...
