Pete's does some things pretty well but falls short in other ways. To start off with the positives, it has a nice neighborhood atmosphere that seems like a nice place to pop by for a sandwich and a drink. Although I only came by for pick-up, I can see it being a pleasant place to dine in with nice happy hour deals. The service was pleasant and attentive as well as I waited for my order.
As far as the food, I was pleasantly surprised with my chicken cutlet grinder, but very underwhelmed with the pizza. I ordered one of the cutlet Italiano grinder and was impressed with the quality of the bread. Each of the elements tasted good on its own, but the only thing lacking was that the chicken cutlet itself wasn't crispy and the breading was quite soft. The portion was generous, and my takeaway is that they seem like they'd do a great job with most of their sandwiches based on mine.
The pizza was where I was left wanting, unfortunately. I ordered the "Pete's special", and while the first few bites were alright, it quickly became difficult to want to eat any more. The pie was close to sauceless, which was a major problem considering just how overwhelmingly salty the toppings were. This was, bar none, the saltiest pizza I've ever had, the cheese was heavy, and the lack of sauce made the slice I ate hit my stomach like a brick. The crust didn't do it any favors either- it was uncannily circular, the center of the pizza's crust was too soft, and the edges of the crust were like weird crackers. Another reviewer said it was reminiscent of Boboli crusts you can get at the grocery store, and I can understand where he was coming from. Maybe the most damming critique I can give this pizza is that I didn't even eat the leftovers the next day or the day after and ended up throwing it out. The positives are that the individual ingredients for the toppings were all high quality, it just didn't matter in the end.
At the end of the day I think there's probably plenty of ways to have a reasonable experience with Pete's. But when your name is literally "Pete's Famous Pizza" I need a reason to pay more than double what I would have at a chain pizzeria, and I didn't even get...
Read moreI wish it was a way to give them ZERO stars!!!! I ordered from here a few times and most of the times I had to send my food back due to lack of quality of the food most of the time it was burnt, the last time I ordered I got wings and the blue cheese had hair in it! at that point I was done with them!!!! Months passed and my co worker ordered from them she ordered a salad which had brown pieces of lettuce in it, if that wasn't bad enough she noticed a piece of black hair buried in the salad (her hair is red), she called Petes and they sent out another brown lettuce salad minus the hair!! Today Another co worker decided to give them another chance since petes is really the only pizza shop in the area, she ordered a veggie pizza for the office before eating it I inspected the pizza well since the issues with hair from the blue cheese and salad, and it was fine right when I took the tomato off the pizza I noticed it was a piece of hair stuck under the tomato it was very similar to the hair from the salad and blue cheese, I was so disgusted mainly because I have already took a bite out of it. I called the manager and he was VERY just bad management I wasn't calling to get my money back or to get a new pizza I was calling to simply make them aware to be careful because this is a repeat offense!!. I threw their menu out so that no one else would make the mistake in ordering from here again! would make We will NEVER order from them again!! and you that's reading this shouldn't either!! don't waste your...
Read moreIt was my first time here and I read the reviews about how expensive it's gotten and they're right. I saw the Pics and they had fries and pickles in their pics but they didn't include the fries in the price for the 16$ Bree Balsamic Cheese steak, they charge 4$ extra for the fries. Plus, they didn't give us any pickles. I repeat. No pickles. We got a small pizza with a little bit of mushrooms for $11. When you use a card the screen asks you to give a tip and my g/f accidentally gave them almost 5$ more for the takeout on top of all their tacked on charges, (we weren't eating in). They do give you a decent amount of meat on the cheesesteak and a good amount of fries thay were not the best, but filling, to not be hungry after paying $38 for 2 people to eat. They give you just enough packets of ketchup if you just use a little. They let us fill our water bottle with sparkling water at least that was nice. What they have going for them is a good location. We were walking in center city. It's hard to enjoy a decent sandwich when it's costing so much and it's not that amazing that it makes all the charges worth it but it's pretty decent I guess. You do get a good amount of food as you should for that price. Just sort of a bummer they don't give you any kind of...
