I've come in a few times and recently started practicing my spanish with hopes of improving it. They are very friendly and will take extra time if they are not busy. They're willing to laugh with you as you laugh at the mistakes you make as mistakes as you are learning is to be expected... When they explained what I said it was quite funny. Thank you, Eribertos, for your help and support.
It's very close to the Mexican food I've come to expect having grown up in San Diego - Carmen's in San Diego and my step-dad who spent a lot of time in Ensanada growing up are my references.
The burritos are very good and you get, in my opinion, a great amount of protein for what they charge. I usually end up taking half home for dinner. I like scorpion sauce for heat and flavor and they don't tend to spice things up unless you ask, which leaves you pleanty of options if you bring your own sauce. Their red sauce, in my opinion, adds flavor like adding salt and pepper. It's good but for heat I usually bring a bottle of scorpion sauce.
If you want a pound (approximately, maybe more) of bacon stuffed in a tortilla just ask for the bacon breakfast burrito with double bacon.
My favorites so far are the american burrito and the carnitas burrito - someone else did a good job of describing the american burrito... The grilled ham adds another layer of flavor that is really great. The carnitas burrito has everything I want with my carnitas including pico de gallo and guacamole. Some of the carnitas is usually a little crispy and I really enjoy that.
The beef burrito is about 30% veggies so that was disappointing.
The guacamole is what I've come to think of as typical Phoenix style guacamole that is it is essentially avocados that have been blended with something to make it more like a sauce. They do not sweeten it like some places in town.
The carrots and jalapeno's are okay. This is an observation based on my preference, I prefer carrots to still have some crunch, their carrots are boiled until they are fairly soft...
The Coca-Cola fountain is well maintained and they must have really good water filtration because the flavor of the soda/pop/coke/soft drink/cocola/tonic is really good. I've never encountered any mixture issues. Good job!
This location, by the Safeway at 7th Ave. and Osborn has a drive through.
When I try the tacos, I'll update...
Read moreIf you're in-between kickball games on A Sunday morning at 9:30am and need to fuel up, boy do I have just the recommendation for you! I ordered a country burrito and for my spouse a carnitas breakfast burrito. There is no option for carnitas under the breakfast burrito menu, so I was delighted to have my request honored with zero hesitation. The wait time was a bit long for a drive-thru but honestly I think it's a red flag when food comes out too quickly anyway. Our orders were PIPING hot and tbh I should have gotten the same thing as my wife because that carnitas was incredible. I think my burrito could have used a little more salt, but the red hot sauce really changed my whole situation around and lucky for me and my fragile gut it was not spicy at all! Just full of flavor. If I ever find myself in such a dire hunger position again I...
Read moreI ordered a ham and egg burrito this morning and was over charged. I asked the guy where my receipt was after he gave me my food and he told me in Spanish, "You did not ask for one so I did not print it?" I thought that sounded a little odd, and I asked him well how much did you charge me for my burrito? He told me 5.19 and that sounded right because the burrito was 4.79 plus tax. I checked my account on my lunch and I realized I was charge 5.79, and if they charged a transaction fee, he did not mention that at all and he did not give me a receipt that showed a transaction fee. I am never going there again. First of all the guy started speaking to me in Spanish as if I am supposed to speak Spanish when I ordered my food in English. The burrito was decent but not worth 5.79 and they don't give you a receipt. I am never...
