Do NOT recommend. It had been a few years since we had dined at Hanny's. It is sadly not what we remember and has gone downhill since the pandemic. We visited over the weekend to celebrate a birthday. We arrived early to secure a table because they do not take reservations. After waiting 30+ minutes, our party was taken to a small round table. There were multiple booths open and available. All the other round tables had 4 chairs placed at them. When we asked to be seated at a booth instead, the snotty hostess named Quinn informed us that parties of 6 needed to be sat at a round table. We gestured to multiple surrounding booths and explained that we had gifts, table decorations and that we were all small women and would be more comfortable at a booth for this special celebration. She responded, "I think you should just sit down at this table and have fun". We were startled by her comment, as it was sharp, ill-mannered and nasty. The table had a structural beam/post that touched one of the girl's seats in the back and was also adjacent from the stairwell. The floor light from the stairwell hit us directly in the eyes while seated. Quinn, the hostess, also said that if we wanted to wait for a larger booth that we would be re-added and put at the "bottom of the waiting list" and wait time would be an additional hour. An unacceptable response and method of conducting a restaurant dining room. At this point, we asked for her name and requested to speak with a Manager. She said she'd go get them but they never came out. I believe Quinn never really asked for the Manager to come out to speak with us. So much time had elapsed waiting for the Manager that the birthday girl had arrived, so we made due with the excessively small table for our large party. While dining we had to turn our plates so they would all fit. The drinks and desserts were inedible and tasted like cleaning products. They had to be sent back. Our server rarely checked in on us. We placed an order for 3 different desserts and asked if they could place a candle in one for the birthday girl. The server obliged but she presented the dessert with the candle lit when half the party was upstairs using the restroom. The candle was melting into the dessert, so we had to sing Happy Birthday without the other members of our party in attendance. While paying for our bill we were not given a physical print-out, just handed an iPad with small font. I noticed that we were over charged for items that we did not order, like sides of ranch dressing. The restrooms were unkept and there was urine all over the floor like in a dirty club. We tried to make the best of the dinner for our friend but none of us will ever return because of the poor service, Quinn's extremely rude demeanor/comments, lack of management, filthy restrooms, mediocre food and...
Read moreHanny’s Restaurant in Downtown Phoenix offers a delightful fusion of history and refined dining that my wife and I have enjoyed on multiple occasions. This establishment elegantly reflects its origin as a 1947 men's clothing store, ensuring that each visit is infused with a sense of nostalgia and architectural grandeur. Upon arrival, the restaurant's charm is immediately apparent.
Despite a bustling Saturday evening crowd, our dining experience was very good, and the attentive service from our server, Avalon, didn’t go unnoticed. With a friendly and accommodating demeanor, she enhanced our experience significantly.
The cocktail menu at Hanny's is extensive and inspiring, particularly for whiskey enthusiasts like myself. I started with Avalon's recommendation, the Paper Plane, which was a fantastic choice and I found myself ordering a second round. I did venture to try the Ginger Creek as well, but it was too ginger-forward for my taste. Though I wasn't offered a replacement—a gesture common in upscale venues—I accepted it with a European outlook, appreciating the experience nonetheless. It wasn’t the bartenders fault nor the servers. They gave me what I asked for. My wife ordered on off menu drink called A Night in Oaxaca which she loved and another called English Garden that she enjoyed as well.
The evening's culinary offerings did not disappoint. We began with two appetizers: the Big Plate and the Shrimp Prosciutto, both of which were delightful. Our choice of salads, a classic Caesar and a Roasted Beet with Grilled Chicken, were equally satisfying, showcasing the attention to detail and quality ingredients that I remember receiving previously at Hanny’s.
Overall, Hanny’s in Downtown Phoenix is a splendid venue for those seeking a unique dining experience steeped in historical ambiance. While certain aspects of the service could align more with upscale expectations, the exceptional food, drinks, and setting make it easy to overlook minor differences in patron policies. It's a place we look forward to revisiting.
I neglected to take pics of the food and drinks so that I could share them with all of you but if you follow me, I will be sure to add some for my...
Read moreHanny’s is THEE spot for a Tito’s dirty martini… with bleu cheese olives. My partner and I go at least 25 times a year. Obsessed. Unfortunately, tonight was a celebratory occasion where we had no doubt in Hanny’s but didn’t end up with the best waiter. Seldom. Not sure of her name but black wing tip eyeliner, curlier brunette in a bun. If we’re dining in, 2 Tuscan Steaks medium-rare (Gorgonzola). Take out, 2 honey hot pizzas. Both absolute fire. That being said, we went with the Tuscan’s MR. Can’t go to Hanny’s without a few martinis. As stated earlier, the bleu cheese olives are must. It seemed our server tonight could really spare the detail. Had to get up to walk to the bar and ask for our own bleu cheese olives. It’s fine, but never happens. Thought maybe she was just really busy, not a huge deal… But then the steaks come out. Everything looks like it always does. Cut into the center of the steak, it’s clearly medium well, just about well done. By this time it’s 11:45pm and the kitchen closes @12:30am (Friday night) so we weren’t going to send them back. She asked if everything looked good? Yes it looks great… but never checked in after the first bite? We didn’t see her for at least another 25-30 minutes. As stated earlier, we were sure she was just busy. The restaurant was quite full. Very dissatisfied this time around. Seemed like she was really only there to deliver what we ordered but could care less about our experience. My partner and I have a “20% no matter what” rule and it was very difficult to choose against that tonight considering the lack of genuine care for our experience. We love Hanny’s and will absolutely continue to dine… But tonight was very disappointing and will choose wisely what section we’re seated in since this is not Hanny’s norm whatsoever. Other than that, we could never not recommend this place. DJ is fun and the blonde hostess is always the first best greeting,...
