Velum Fermentation — Restaurant in Pittsburgh

This venue brings to mind an interview with Jackie Chan discussing his co-star Lucy Lu: “ Is she pretty? Is she ugly? i’m not sure!” But while I figure that out, I can tell you what I really enjoyed about the venue…if you like the smell of heated hops, the beer making process going on in a large caged section of the site leaves no doubt you are in a brewery. That and the tap room where you can buy the great beer they brew. In another part of the humongous open concept design was a pickle ball court, a pinball arcade and a picnic style area where you can drink your beer and watch folks play pickle ball and pinball. I was there to scout for event space and was happy to hear they can reconfigure the majority of the space and they have risers for staging, making this spot —a chameleon! Oh did I mention the grill cheese food truck in permanent residence outside and the welcoming fire pit on the long, long dock area? After all it’s a warehouse conversion. What an awesome space and great beer. We had no idea how huge it would be and how much there is to do. First, we were greeted by the most friendly staff who insisted we try samples of many of the beers to ensure we landed with something we enjoyed. I loved that they had a variety as so many breweries only offer IPAs now, but they had a sour, porter, lager and wheat beer to choose from too. Then we were off to the huge warehouse space to play free games - ski ball, ping pong, corn hole, bocce and even pickleball. It was very family and dog friendly. We held a birthday party here and could not have had a better experience! Jenna was super responsive, helpful, and accommodating throughout the entire process. Velum’s space is so large that even though we weren’t a “private” event we had a more than large enough area to accommodate our large group. All of our guests were raving about the beer and really enjoyed being able to play all of the games. Compared to other locations I looked at for a similar set up, Velum was extremely reasonably priced for all that they provided to us. We will be coming back here soon and for many years to come, and would recommend to anyone for a party or just a fun day out. Thanks...
