My business partner wanted to treat me to breakfast at a place I had never heard of before called Henry's. Her father had taken her several weeks before and she fell in love. The day we went, I believe our waitress was named Christian. She was friendly, energetic, and her smile was like sunshine. My partner ordered two pieces of blackened snapper and the veggie-loaded hash browns. I ordered scrambled eggs and asked if I could have the veggies (onions, peppers, tomatoes, broccoli) scrambled in as well...with cheese. We both had coffee (which was pretty good) and water without ice. I have trained myself over the years that, even if food needs it, I don't reach for the salt shaker. The food was hot when it arrived, and we didn't have to wait on it all day like we usually do at IHOP. In spite of the promptness and freshness of our meal, the food was RIDICULOUSLY bland. I actually reached for the salt and used it. After stirring the food around to disperse the salt, it still was wanting. After sprinkling a little bit more salt, I soon discovered that my meal needed more help than salt alone could give. I asked for a to-go plate even though I knew I would never eat it. I sampled a small piece of my partner's blackened snapper since I was still hungry, and it was VERY good! My partner did admit her hash browns were not very palatable and also asked for a to-go box. When the waitress brought us our bill, I purposed in my heart to tip the waitress an extra $20 in addition to whatever my business partner tipped her. After app, it wasn't her fault the food was nasty. As I watched my friend sign the check, I snatched it from her hands to make sure I was seeing things clearly. It was nearly $55! I knew there had to be an error somewhere! My meal should have been about $10 and my partner's about $25. When the waitress broke down our charges, the veggies in my eggs were nearly $10 extra! She charged both of us for cheese that we could neither see nor taste. When we first sat down, I told Christian that that was my first visit to Henry's. As wonderful as she had been during our entire visit, I thought it negligent of her to not warn me that my bill was going to DOUBLE becauseof a tasteless add-in! She could see that I barely touched it because it was so unsavory. I even thought of dousing the wretched thing with ketchup to make it appealing. smh My partner paid the bill and tipped over 20%. I felt horrible that she paid so much for food that we didn't even enjoy. I refrained from offering an additional tip just so that we could leave the establishment quicker. Perhaps my meal selection was not a good choice, and there were tastier options I should have tried (like the snapper). All I know is that my large leftover is STILL sitting in my fridge several days later (at the time of this writing), and I have no desire to give Henry's a second chance any time...
Read moreI have come to this restaurant many times over the last 20 years I’ve lived here. However, today when I came to the restaurant with my daughter and granddaughter, the bacon had black spots on it and tasted nasty. When we brought it to the attention of the wait staff, they took it back to the restaurant owner who said that they were calling the supplier because it wasn’t acceptable to be delivered like this. The bacon had a nasty flavor. She brought out another plate of bacon to my daughter and granddaughter, which had no black spots, and both of them said it tasted extremely different. When we went to check out, I spoke to the owner, who assured me that the black spots was simply how it was delivered, and that it was cooked the same and there was no difference between the two. I assured her that in all the time we’ve come here that we’ve never had a problem with bacon with black spots and that we’ve never had a problem with the bacon being disgusting. I told her that if there was no difference between the two that they should’ve both tasted exactly the same. However, they did not. This is absolutely disgusting. Absolutely unacceptable and totally not Henry’s normal quality of food service. One star, one star, one star.
Update: Then the manager came out to confront me about giving them a one star review, while I waited for the 3 year old to finish her fresh fruit. She said the black spots were due to how it was cooked, but couldn’t explain why they all didn’t have black spots and why the ones with the spots tasted bad. Funny hope the support changed from being brought in that way to being caused by the grill. Won’t ever be...
Read moreMy family and I decided to try this location on our way back home to Florida from our vacation in The Carolinas. The food at the Pooler location is definitely below par compared to the Drayton St location in Savannah's historic district. Food was extremely cold and was sent back twice with the same chilling results. The philly steak omelette was one of the worst omelettes we have ever had; greasy, cold, sour tasting, and just disgusting. The burger was inedible; cold, meat tasted spoiled, and the toppings were slimy. The chicken tenders had a good taste but were so over cooked it was like eating sandpaper making it very hard to swallow. The fried foods were cooked in old grease which was burnt. The only good thing about this place was our server. She was very compassionate and understanding. The manager on the other hand was very rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional. Being a chef and business owner myself, I completely understand the nature of the food industry business and how not everyone will like the food, but as a manager she was absolutely terrible. We did not attempt to get any discounts or food removed from the bill, but when we expressed our concerns she started raising her voice and went line by line with each item and attempted to raise the price of our meal. Needless to say we will not be returning to the Pooler location. We truly hope that others do not rate Henry's as a whole based on the experiences at...
