I honestly have not experienced such disappointment with an excursion in SPI.
My boyfriend enjoys to fish and I wanted to show him the joys of bay fishing at SPI for the first time. I wanted to make sure it was a good trip so we decided to choose the boat with the best reviews. Surprisingly, this had the highest ratings.
We boarded onto the boat and I assumed the captain and deck hand would at least say, "welcome to our boat! Thanks for choosing us!" I guess I expected too much because we didn't even get the slightest acknowledge.
We drove out to the bay and stopped at our first spot... still no greeting. The deck hand just said, " K.. go fish." Wow! Such guidance and passion! This was just the beginning.
Now, fishing out in the bay is a peaceful and beautiful experience. Let me tell you, listening to the captains severe case of sleep apnea really brings the whole experience together. That's right. Every time we stopped at a fishing spot we got to listen to the captain obnoxious snores. The snoring really drowned out... pretty much everything. Our deck hand had a solution though! He went ahead and turned on the radio extra loud so we could listen to the weather report in EVERY county of Texas! Wow, problem solved. I mean what other choice did we have right? A man choking on his own snoring or the weather cast in a monotone robot voice? I didn't want to feel at peace anyway while enjoying my vacation! .
I honestly had to hold in my laughter when the deck hand brought out the tip jar on the ride home. Such a sad experience. I guess we drew the short stick with this crew cause I have no idea how they have such high reviews. The hospitality of this crew was really...
Read moreWorst guided fishing experience I've ever had! I've been on several guided fishing tours at the island both deep and bay, as well as several in Florida, and this one was BY FAR this worst out of all of them! Out of our group of 7 people, only 3 fish were caught by 2 of us, and we all do a ridiculous amount of fishing. There were around 30 people on the boat and only a handful caught anything. On top of the lousy fishing, the deckhand was rude, before we even left port he said "I'm not here to babysit you"! Neither him nor the captain were friendly or talkative, or very attentive when help was needed with being snagged on something or getting a fish off the hook. I've never been so ready for a fishing trip to end but 2 hours in I was ready to leave and it was a 4 hour trip! Had I been able to remember the name of the other guided fishing tour before I booked this one, I would have booked with them hands down! I passed it on the way here, so if you are looking for a fun and good guided fishing tour, go to Dolphin Docks! It's not only cheaper but the experience was amazing...
