I used to enjoy the food here. Especially the fried chicken sandwich.
I stopped in Memorial Day weekend to grab a bite after a nice hike with my girlfriend. We ordered a chicken sandwich, burger, and some mozzarella sticks. I was super hungry, so started eating my chicken sandwich right away. I noticed second bite in, it was cold and chewy. I thought maybe it’s a fatty piece? I looked more thoroughly and noticed the whole breast was completely raw.
I was pretty shocked and didn’t know how to react. We brought the sandwich back and they only refunded us for the sandwich and hardly looked up at us. We didn’t want to eat any food after the experience, therefore I had to approach the kitchen manager a second time to receive a refund on all of the food purchased. I also never got my cash tip back.
I’ve spent the last 24 hours monitoring myself to make sure I don’t become extremely ill with food poisoning or worse, salmonella. All in all was a super upsetting experience and no one came out with a genuine apology or anything. The bartender was nice enough to give us some free drink chips, which we will likely give to a...
Read moreI want to preface this review: 5 stars for the pub itself. Our bartender was fantastic. The crowd was great. My beer was cold. My food was horrible, so -2 stars. The pub doesn't sell food, but a kitchen runs off to the side.
We just walked up the hill and wanted to get away from the bustle. This place was great for that! The food menu is great, but the food I ordered, the Fried Chicken, was not good. The quality of chicken was great, but it was very undercooked and lacked flavor. I wonder whether the oil was not hot enough, as the $13 two-piece chicken meal I ordered had very oily chicken, but my sides were superb. I also felt as if the use of salt was not evident; I don't typically like a lot of salt, but this was missing any semblance of it.
In short, next time I go here, I will make sure to stay away from the fryer. I only hope that the BBQ is good... The beer and service, however, seems to be on point. I loved the vibe and the local feel. Hopefully, things work out for...
Read moreGreat beer selections, crusty, historic uptown bar with a funky, comfortable vibe. We love establishments like this...in fact...seek them out. We had looked online, saw they served bbq...but the food comes from the bbq shop next door, so separate ordering and payment. That was no big deal, as the gentleman who took our orders was very nice and knowledgeable about the fare. The queso mac was delicious and the braised cabbage and ribs...yummmmmy. My fellow diners had pulled pork, grits, meatloaf and smashed potatoes with the pepper gravy that truly rocked! Unfortunately, the burger also ordered was disappointing. Dry bun, not good flavor. His spicy fries were good though. There is no table service for beers, but we were cool with that. I would definitely return. For us tourists, we appreciated this venue...off the high visibility track...but well...
