My wife has an accent, right away there was judgment and bad attitude by the owner's wife taking the order. I took over figuring she would get better, I have no accent. In fact, I was raised around Port Washington my entire life. I DO, however, still have dark hair and features like my wife. But no change, in fact, she added a sandwish to my order in error that I did not need and so I simply asked for a correction in a warm and polite way. Because lets face it, this is small potatos in life. No big deal. Well, not for her. This seemed to ruin her day. Even her husband caught word of the commotion and came to the front to give us a dirty look. Same terrible attitude. I even watched her walk to the cooking staff and inform them of the "voided" item as she rolled her eyes. Once she noticed I caught her doing that she turns to me and says "we were able to void your order". As if I put her out and did something wrong. It's a sandwich order change, can't possibly be outside their job description. I own businesses and am a small business consultant. There is no reason she should be the front person for this restaurant. Poor leadership, bad culture, blatent discrimination if you are anything different she is. Aging, foreign, dark features, purple, blue... do not support this business until they make great strides to change.
Look at all the 1 stars. They are there for good reason and there are A lOT. I'm surprised they still show 4.4 stars.
The food was average in taste and above average in price and not worth the terrible energy we were sent off with for the holiday weekend. I am not mad or angry. I feel empathy for their poorly run enterprise because I know how tough it can be. They are lacking business awareness and emotional intelligence. They should be providing a service and giving away great food and atmosphere. Instead they do the opposite. Major organizational change needed. They are loosing valuable revenue and ultimately profit. I'll bet the sales are great with plenty of new traffic, but they're left with little at the end because of behavior. That formula often means little repeat business except the few locals. Who I'm sure are dealing with the same.. I would enjoy returning and posting the best experience I possibiy can after they hire an outside consultant in their industry. Good luck out there Dockside Deli! It's tough for...
Read moreTerrible experience, which is too bad because the sandwiches were very good. We will never return or recommend this place. Cashier was unmasked as we entered. She made a feeble attempt to pull the bandanna from around her neck as we stood there, all 4 of us in masks. When we asked if dining in was an option(all tables were empty) she made a snarky reply of yes, it must be our lucky day. We ordered our food and proceeded to a table. The 17 varieties of ice cream had been reduced to chocolate or vanilla, which was disappointing as we had chosen this place partially because of child had dental surgery the previous day and was on soft cold foods only. When I approached the cashier area again, as we had not received cups for drinks or our chips, an unmasked, extremely rude elderly couple had entered. While we were masked and standing with 6+ feet between us, the man began being rude to my daughter and his wife was kind of rambling nonsense. I tried to maintain calm and walk away. As they continued to harass us, to the point of having to ask them to respect our space, I observed the cashier scooping my daughters ice cream, again unmasked. We received our food, quickly getting about halfway through before we ultimately packed up and left. Between the blatant disrespect for simply wearing a mask, and horrible "regular" customers who were more important than us, this...
Read moreDockside Deli in Port Washington is an absolute gem that everyone needs to experience. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with a warm, welcoming atmosphere that perfectly complements the scenic lakeside location. I stopped in for a quick bite and ordered a sandwich, and I can confidently say it was the best sandwich I’ve ever had.
The ingredients were incredibly fresh, and every bite was packed with flavor. The bread was perfectly toasted, and the meats and toppings were high quality and generously portioned. You can tell they take pride in what they serve, and the attention to detail really sets them apart from other spots. The combination of flavors made it clear that everything was made with care, not just thrown together.
Beyond the food, the service was friendly and efficient. The staff made sure I had everything I needed without feeling rushed, which added to the overall positive experience. The deli also has a cozy charm with great views of the harbor! It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy a meal.
Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Dockside Deli is a must-visit. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a delicious meal in a laid-back setting. It’s the kind of place you’ll find yourself wanting to come back to again and again. If you’re in Port Washington, do yourself a favor and stop by! You won’t be...
