So, I've eaten Indian food here & there throughout my life and never been too enamored with it. Lived in a food desert for more than 2 decades. In Portland for a little R&R & sightseeing. The California girl in me LOVES street food & food trucks. I love lamb, too, and am of a certain age now . . . so I like it SPICY, now, too . . After a disappointing gyro that was not anything like an authentic gyro and sushi rolls that reminded me why real sushi chefs need to apprentice for, at least a decade, I threw caution to the wind and ordered the Lamb Vindaloo here. [I don't know what these people complaining about the butter chicken are on about. I didn't order the butter chicken. I recommend you try the Tikka Masala, Vindaloo, or biryani.] Once alone with the lamb Vindaloo, basmati, & naan, what followed was a foodgasm. I returned to my roots. I returned to the cave. The food orgy that followed is NSFW. I cannot show the pictures. Suffice it to say that by the end, I was gasping for breath, my eyes were watering, my nose was dripping from the heat, and I was MORE than satisfied and pleasantly surprised. [Not sure of the role the Wunder gummies & vodka may have played] Unlike the food from Dhaba's neighbors, which were consigned to a nearby dumpster, these Indian leftovers are coming home with me! Yum! I will come back for this...
Read moreListen: you’ll be “ooh’d” and “awed” by the food carts resting around Dhaba Indian Kitchen #2, with their long lines and people patiently waiting for the ramen and sushiritos, but I strongly urge you to make the (not-so-bold) decision of ordering from this Indian food Mecca. Heaping portions, strong flavors, variety galore, and to top it all off? The kindest, hardest working folks in the lot. The food is absolutely bursting with flavor, it’s always made with care and love, it’s super fresh, and it comes out extra fast. From the saag paneer, to the butter chicken, to the tikka masala: you can’t go wrong here. To kick it up, order the garlic naan and be transported into an alternate reality where everyone will want to kiss your buttery, garlicky face as you sponge up all that delicious seasoned-to-perfection sauce. Times are tough for us all during the pandemic, so do yourself a favor and order this delicious,...
Read moreLooks exactly like the same cart that is now at the new food pod at SW 5th and Oak. I ordered the Chicken Korma and when I took it out, it looked like tiki masala. I took it back and they said nope, it's Korma. I went and sat down and had a bite. Tasted like milk and rice with a hint of tiki masala. I took it back again and again they said it was Korma. I shook my head and sat down and just fished out the chicken because the rice was mush and the sauce was mostly cream. Done with the chicken, the guy from the cart came over and gave me a small plastic tub of sauce, explained quickly that this was Korma. I put the sauce in what was left of milk and mush rice and it was barely a difference and was definitely not Korma. I get Korma all the time from restaurants (Ghandi's, Siri, Swagat, New Taste of India, Great Taste of India) even Best Taste of India three carts away. I know what Korma tastes like and this ain't it!...
