I have always used Free Range and also recommended to friends and relatives. Today I brought a relative to buy some lobster meat before the went back home. I read the sign on the door which said only 1 person per vehicle could enter. There was no one else there as it was first thing. I went in with my company and was immediately spoken to in a very discourtesy way. I understand I should not be there but since no one else was there I enter with my guess to ask some questions before they made their purchase. Every time I opened my mouth to say I just would like to ask a question I was immediately cut off and told I had to leave. One person came in and witness this. I proceeded to leave because I did not want the situation to get worst. The other person came out and said they could not believe how rudely I was treated. Thinking back....if we came in 2 cars we both could have gone in but because we came in 1 car so only one could enter even though the limit was not met. In hindsight we both should have left and gone somewhere else. I work with the public and if I had every spoke like that to a customer I would have been fired. There is a way of saying thing that does not...

Out of town visitors looking for a place to get Maine lobster to cook at our airbnb. Saw all the great reviews for this establishment so we stopped in yesterday. Between our 3 families we bought over $600 worth of lobsters (quarters), scallops & shrimps. Everyone was excited to get back to the house to cook & have a good dinner. To our disappointment, all the lobsters tasted horrible. They tasted worst than frozen lobster meat. They seemed like soft shelled, even thought the guy told us they ran out of soft shell and charged us hard shell prices. We had 2 huge lobsters that when opened up only had salty water and barely any meat. All the lobster meat was salty not sweet. I don't know what's wrong with them since they were still alive when we bought them back to the house. But the quality is just horrible. We still have half of the lobsters that we bought because everyone refused to eat them. I've been to Maine many times and have bought fresh live lobsters from one place in Boothbay many times. I've even bought fresh live lobsters home and they were all delicious, sweet & tender. This is the...

I visited your store on August 6, 2014 around 1pm and waited about 20 minutes to get waited on. It was not busy, maybe 3 or 4 people. A young man waited on me from behind the counter and I ordered 2 pounds of haddock ($4.99lb). He took the product from a container behind the counter and I noticed it was a slightly pink color. I question him as I have never known haddock to be pinkish. I paid for the haddock and proceeded home. At approximately 5:30 pm I started fixing supper and again I noticed that the fish had a very pinky color. I prepared my fish buy doing an egg dip and lightly fried it slowly in a light spray of Pam. Again as I was eating I noticed it was not white in color and it did not taste like haddock. I was raised in the Portland area and have eaten haddock all my life. This definitely was not haddock that I was given. I believe you are substituting other fish for the haddock and that is why you sell it at a lower price than most fish places. I believe my money should be refunded. I also would not recommend your store to visitors to Maine who want...

My wife and I stayed in a hotel down the street. We had them steam some lobsters for us and took them back to the hotel to eat. They were perfectly steamed and the meat was soft, tender, and sweet. We loved them so much that we decided to take some on our flight home. We got four quarter sized hard shelled lobsters. They packaged them in a cooler with gel packs. We got to Boston Logan airport about three hours later and got through security without any issues. I was able to fit the cooler under the seat. But I decided to put it in the overhead bin since it was a pretty empty flight and a ton of bin space left. I had no issues with any liquids leaking By the time we got home, it had been around 12 hours since we bought the lobsters and they were all still alive.

Great high quality fresh seafood. The prices are fair, especially in Portland, and unlike going to the supermarket Free Range can always tell you where their seafood comes from. The big guy who manages the place is a bit gruff, but get to know him and he's one of the nicest guys you'll meet, and he knows his stuff when it comes to seafood. If I am in Portland there is no where else I would go for seafood. They also ship, which is a great feature for those from away. And if you want a steamed lobster, but don't want to do they work, call them an hour ahead of time and they will steam it for you! Love this place!

Canโ€™t think of a better way to leave this foodie mecca than with a final stop at FRF&L. They made it so easy to pick with their helpful service, reasonable prices, and easy to pack bags incl. free ice. As others have said, their smoked salmon done in house is excellent! Picked up some nice Nova Scotia mini skrimp and some beautiful fish fillets. Made it all the way home two states over and the fish was still nice and fresh!
