It's really good above average sushi. Like I would say better than mio sushi or bamboo sushi. A little on the pricier side for what it was, but it's a really good basic spot.
Umami salmon ⭐⭐⭐ I couldn't really taste the difference between this and a normal nigiri, and I'm not sure if it's because I have a trash pallette I am not sure if it was missing a paste or a flavor here that would have screamed umami
Sake sashimi ⭐⭐⭐⭐ what you'd expect it's good salmon but not mind blowing for it to be mindblowing for us we need it to be fatty bc it's just so decadent.
Uni ⭐⭐✨ didn't love it this time but my boyfriend rated it a 5/5 bc he usually doesn't like uni but loved this one I'm wondering if this was user error on my side, I was so hungry I dipped the sushi rice first which is always a no no my main issue was how seafood or salty it tasted, despite uni being my favorite sushi ever
Unagi avocado ⭐⭐⭐⭐ what you'd expect
Pork katsu ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ basically a soup, a little more watery than I'm used to but I like it pork was delicious but it was a little too dry for us we appreciate how crispy it was but we've had crispy and juicy pork in Japan before and know it's possible wish...
Read moreIntro - A great Japanese place to head to, whether on the fly or an outing with the fam or even a date.
Food - Very good. I can't really say it's outstanding, but it does a good job cooking up Japanese food.
Service - The people who work here do a great job. They're kind and friendly, and I haven't had any bad experiences with them. Some have complimented on my Japanese speaking, being the noob at the language I am.
Atmosphere - This place is so tiny! There's only like... a dozen tables? But funnily enough, I've never had to wait when I visited this place. They also have some decorations in some places to add character. Good on them!
Cost - A little expensive, but it's Japanese, so what do you expect? You do definitely get what you pay for. Going alone, I'd expect to pay $30 or so.
Summary - This place is a good choice for when you're in the mood for Japanese food, but don't want to spend too much. And what's nice is that it's kinda versatile. You can go here for a date or for just your hour of lunch. It's a good all-rounder Japanese place,...
Read moreMy husband and I went to Koji's Osakaya Restaurant near Sellwood and it was a great experience! The sushi was excellent and fresh. We also had an order of tempura that had a light batter and was not greasy (like so many tempura is at other Japanese restaurants). The restaurant was busy but we had really good service and, most importantly, it was not noisy. My husband and I actually were able to have a conversation. Oh yes, one more thing...eating sushi can be expensive but we felt that the prices were extremely reasonable (for sushi). We really didn't pay attention to the prices when we ordered (we had not been successful in the year that we have been living in Portland finding good sushi that would compare at all with the sushi we got while living for 7 years in Kaua'i--this did!), we just wanted good sushi. When we got the bill, it was much, much less than we thought it would be. I highly recommend it.
Next, we want to try the other two Koji Osakaya...
