As a city with ample access to high-quality fish ,Portland knows its way around some sushi. Blue Fin is definitely one of the good ones on that list . I had this place bookmarked for a while and finally when we did try them , it stood up to the hype .
Ambience - The place is big but its not very appealing . Very lackluster décor and inefficient use of space .The overall ambience leaves a lot to be desired . They have a long line of waiting customers most days and yet a very small place for them to actually sit and wait.
Food - Toro, otoro, chutoro, and of course bluefin are specialties, though the restaurant offers plenty of other options from the Pacific's bounty as well, including salmon, crab, sea urchin, prawns, and frequent specials. We had the BlueFin special -Combo C and although it looked enough for the two of us . we were both slightly hungry by the end of our meal- I would recommend adding another roll or an appetizer to go with it .This was a great choice because you get to taste a lot of the menu and have your favorites picked out for the next visit. We also had a hot sake with our meal and I would again recommend to get the bigger option on this one. Really nice presentation and fresh sushi that tasted delicious .Hamachi Negi toro was my favourite.
Service - we had to wait a while before we got seated - I would say around 30 minutes but we knew that before we came in so it wasn't that bad . The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and answered our questions about the variety and cuts of fishes with great ease .
Pricing - Great prices for the quality and quantity of food...

I really like that they put not only Ume and Yuzugosho for sashimi. Many ways to enjoy them. I’m not sure about the quality of Tempura tho. It was definitely not the tempura you get in authentic Japanese restaurants, but it was fine.
This place is the best sushi restaurant I’ve ever had in the states. I lived in Japan for the entire of my childhood, and I’m very picky when it comes to sushi or Japanese restaurant! The fish was very fresh and affordable. My bf and I went there for his birthday dinner, and we both loved it so much. The workers there are so friendly and super nice too. I would recommend everyone to try either their temari or sashimi. I didn’t expect this good quality of sashimi or sushi in the states, honestly. And! Their happy hour is honestly the best offer we’ve got. The sake was delicious (it’s exactly like what I’ve known from Japan), and their cocktail was very refreshing. We only noticed that their takoyaki wasn't good as I expected. It was more like age tako, which was fried takoyaki, but still, I was pretty decent! Outstanding services, very clean place, excellent presentation. I honestly don't want any more people to know our new...
Read moreBellingham Wa isn't known for its sushi restaurants and frankly most dining venues. I've been to this sushi restaurant before and always thought they were fairly good as Bellingham goes. I went last night there for the first time in a couple of years just to see how it was. I didn't come with high expectations, but I have to say, given the sad state of affairs in the restaurant industry these days....big prices....poorer quality ingredients....untrained wait staff......that was NOT what I got. My dinner and the service at Bluefin Tuna and Sushi blew me away last night. The waitstaff were polite, responsive and worked as a team and the sushi was killer. I started with a seaweed/cumber/shrimp salad....it was light, flavorful and refreshing. Next I tried the maguro and toro nigiri. Both were prepared elegantly, and melted in my mouth. Their scallop hotate was lightly sweet and creamy as you would expect and the roll I had to finish was beautifully done but too much for me to eat all there. I was very happy at the end. The bill was less than 100 the food was perfect and the service was great. Considering the poor dining, snarky waitstaff and expensive, pretentious prices in Bellingham, this place is a 5 star easy. Highly recommended especially on a Monday night. Nice job staff and owners! I don't...
