The Canadian Ministry (aka my boyfriend) has ruled: "This isn't poutine." Because apparently, anyone who knows anything about poutine knows "the gravy has to be hot enough to melt the cheese curds." & It was not.
For one, the gravy was in what looked like a slow cooker, not even over an open flame and for two, it wasn't even a brown, beef gravy - it looked like some type of Cajun, turkey gravy.
The fries were crispy, but SUPER salty. I like that, but if you're sensitive to salt, be forwarned.
A lot of reviews are complaining about the fries going "soggy," but we ate ours before we left & they were fine. Any poutine goes soggy the longer you let it sit, so maybe the other reviews ordered it to-go? Idk...
As a cheesy, gravy, french fry dish, I give it 3 ⭐'s. It was a decent eat.
However, as a poutine, I give it 1 ⭐. It was NOT poutine (or at least not a poutine done well) & from a place with poutine in the name, saying it specializes in poutine - I expected better.
Edit: For price reference: $9 for the OG Poutine, $11 for the South of the Border Poutine. $20 total for...
Read morePoutine Palace just moved into my neighborhood and has been taunting me with its delicious smells each day since - finally got myself over to try it! :) I got the OG with vegan gravy over fries and the same over tots. YUM! The potato to gravy distribution was excellent, both tots and fries were crispy (though they softened as time went on, understandable and to be expected as they are covered in gravy). Cheese curds were outstanding. The people working were both incredibly nice and provided helpful menu information! They were very aware which options contained which allergens - all you have to do is ask. Absolutely recommend, definitely...
Read moreOrdered one OG and one breakfast poutine.
Cons: -Thick unseasoned gravy that get thicker as it cools offers no taste and leads to unpleasant texture of poutine. -Curds were too large in most cases and often dry, did not have good squeak. There was not enough curds to have one in every bite. -fries were undercooked for this application and did not stay crispy long enough to finish eating before soggy.
Pros: -breakfast poutine had very well cooked egg and bacon.
End results: the overall lack of seasoning made this a not enjoyable meal.
