I had just spent a few hours in the hospital (as a precaution, I am fine) and gotten out late and really wanted some good food that wasn't bad for me. This place was really well rated and nearby, so I headed over just before they closed. Having worked in hospitality, I was really sensitive to showing up 15 minutes before close, so I asked if I could still order or if they were closing up. They were super friendly and happy to take my order. While I waited, they handed me out some free hummus and falafel. Also, while I waited, I noticed a woman in the fenced in area behind their cart in the dumpster. I asked them if she worked for them, and although we had a language barrier, I figured out she did not work for them, so she was either looking for food or cans/bottles for deposits, likely. I asked her if she was hungry and told her to come order something - even had my card out and was ready to pay, and the two very kind men inside the cart refused to let me pay for her and instead gave her a platter and drink for free. It is really easy in Portland to become numb to the population of people on the streets, but I wanted to give kindness back to these men who not only made me DELICIOUSLY spiced chicken, salad, rice and French fries with enormous portions (the sheesh sauce is like a uniquely spicy mayo), but most importantly for their kindness to people who are often ignored. For ALL of these reasons you should definitely give sheesh your business:
Update: staff were wearing gloves, the service was very nice and the fries were better seasoned this time. I still think there should be some sauce on the side though.
I've been wanting to try the place out for a while but it was very underwhelming the shawarma was alright nothing crazy but not bad just ok. The fries were the real downfall, no seasoning, barely any sauce and not crispy. Service was mediocre. Nothing to rave about, nothing to really complain about. Cleanliness could improve. I didn't see any gloves and the cart didn't seem super clean. I'm not picky about gloves as it's more of a facade but again the cart cleanliness makes me think it could improvem
Recommend: adding option for sauce on the side or extra sauce and not burying it at the bottom. Putting some salt on the fries. Honestly sauce on the side for the shawarma would be great too and having a better customer service procedure.
Would I go back? Maybe if I was very hungry near by and needed a fix but nothing to crave about
Keep in mind I went here right around 11pm so close to closing which could affect the...
Read moreLove this place. I eat here like 2-3x a week since I live nearby. The Sheesh Chicken Combo (comes w/ fries and a drink) is my go-to. Great spice blend. The sauce is fantastic (they drizzle it on your fries too). Comes with pickle slices, tomatoes, onions on the side too which I mix up with my fries which makes a great little concoction. The hours are crazy too, as I think they're open until 11 or midnight 6 days a week which is super convenient. Everyone that works there is super nice and helpful as well. My parents were in town a few weeks ago and they're notoriously picky, uncultured eaters. The gentleman took the time to walk through what comes in it, what he can substitute, gave some samples to let them try before they buy, it was all just really nice and you can tell they care about their role in the community.
I'm tellin ya, give this place a shot. You won't be...
