Whoever is managing this place needs some serious staff training as the customer service was not good. I came in and walked up to the counter, then stood there for at least five minutes before I was acknowledged. It was like a contest between the two employees to see who could ignore me the longest so they wouldn't have to work the register. I finally got my order in, and despite being the only one there within the previous ten minutes it took five more minutes to pour a cold brew coffee. I waited several more minutes for my other coffee before I realized that regular coffee is self serve (something they failed to mention when I ordered it). The to go cups are behind the counter so I had to reach over and grab one, but then there were no lids. I decided to wait next to the checkstand while they helped the next customer before being acknowledged and asking for a lid, but again I was totally ignored while they moved on to the next customer. So I waited for this person to finish before butting in and asking if they had a lid. The response was "yeah, we probably have some around here somewhere." Then, instead of getting one, he moves on to the next customer in line. At this point another employee comes in and hears me ask for lids and says he can get me one. But instead of getting lids he begins to make a coffee for someone. After starting the second coffee he then remembers he was getting a lid for me. He goes in the hallway and rummages around some boxes and comes back with lids. I finally get a lid and leave. All in all I was in the coffee joint for nearly a half an hour to get two coffees to go. Coffee was good, service...

Came here this afternoon at around 1pm. Store hours indicate they close at 2pm. All the chairs were up on the tables and the employees were obviously in the process of cleaning and shutting everything down. We asked if they were still open, and got a "ya but we like to close early". Also, asked if we could still dine in and were told 'I guess you can take a few chairs down'. I ordered a half dozen plain bagels to-go and the rude employee grabbed a bag of bagels off the top of the counter and said 'here- these are day old but they're half price and they'll be fine' ... I was so surprised by this that I took the bagels and said let's go, we'll go eat somewhere else for lunch. Somewhere interested in providing "customer service". I was so appalled and disgusted, and wonder if the owner is aware of the way the employees have no regard for the bottom line. Based on several other reviews, this is not an isolated incident.

Now regarding the bagels... when I got home I tried the "day old" bagel and it was terrible. I guarantee these were not made yesterday. They were dry and there was nothing - crunchy about the exterior, nor was there a soft doughy center as their website proclaims. What a waste of money.

If you want a good bagel and good customer service,...

What's the deal with Spielman's? They're slightly below decent and that's putting it nicely. First of they have a major e-commerce problem. A janky user interface making it very difficult to place an order on their site. 50% of the the time they're open they will say they're closed, same goes for using a 3rd party service like Door Dash. Other times they will accept the order but cancel and refund it 30 minutes later with no reason even though the order was placed well within operating hours. Other instances include replacing the entire order with something else due to lack of ingredients and no means of being able to alter this or perhaps make a modification to the change they are "recommending" as is the case with other restaurants in the area. See picture of my originally intended Reuben.

In terms of quality they're decent for a Portland Bagel shop. Definitely not in the same stratosphere resembling a New York bagel but that is expected on the west coast. Their bagel sandwiches are usually well assembled but altogether taste bland and lacking a distinctive taste. If you are craving a mouth watering egg/cheese/bacon bagel sando I recommend taking your appetite down to 21st for a much...

I am really so disappointed to write this. I loved Spielmans, ordered at least once a week and the quality has just gone downhill. It’s been multile incorrect orders, which I can deal with. Accidents happen especially if it’s busy. Then it became rude staff members- I get that sometimes people can have an off day and figured maybe it would be better next time. I can tolerate a lot for good food, but today it was terrible. I received an item that should never have left the kitchen. I ordered The Fancy, paid extra for bacon (this was my favorite). What I got was a bagel sandwich with bacon so burnt it shouldn’t have been served. Like I could smell it through the bag. This was literally charcoal (see pics). This should have been tossed and remade. I’m just shocked someone actually packaged that and sold it. It’s just really sad, I loved this place and recommended it often; but it seems like they just don’t care anymore.

A solid neighborhood bagel and coffee shop in NW Portland! As with most bagel shops, the earlier you come, the better bagel selection you have. Opted for a bagel sandwicch and oat latte. They forgot to add sausage to my sandwich, but quickly made one for me and even offered a coffee on the house! Solid tasting bagel, nothing too exciting but would definitely come back for a slow morning bite or quick one on the way to work! Came around 11am and it was not too busy at all. Place has plenty of indoor seating, although best lighting is near the window. 2 tiers of smear (flavored and premium) differ by price of $1.
