Treebeerd's is the Bomb(adil)!
I've popped into Treebeerd's a couple times previous: once just to look around, another for a quick sample of the brews on tap, but last night was the first time I'd been able to spend any significant amount of time here; a mistake that will not be repeated again. The trappings of Middle Earth are on display here, but their influence is almost as subtle as the One Ring itself: if you're not paying attention, you might not even notice. Thus, Treebeerd's is suitable for all humans, nerdy or not, as well as hobbits, elves and dwarves!
Now, I'm generally not much of a beer/ale/lager/stout drinker, generally preferring spirits over brews; fortunately for me (and people like me), Treebeerd's has an arsenal of awesome alternatives, including several ciders (the Vanilla Honey is incredible), mead, and even a non-alcoholic (boo!) root beer suitable for any Ent or Treant. BAARUM!
I had a pint ("It comes in pints?! I'm getting one!") of both the said Vanilla Honey cider, and the Nectarade mead; both of them were light and refreshing, and went down smooth and without complaint from my picky palate. I realized later that night that I'd forgotten to eat anything; these two beverages ended up being filling enough to be a meal in themselves, with no feeling of bloating whatsoever, and leaving me with a pleasant buzz right up until bedtime!
All of the servers were humble, gracious and welcoming, creating an environment of true Fellowship that would make Elrond proud. Although Tolkien may have long ago passed into the West, his legacy is Too Towering to be forgotten, and lives on in reverent homage here. Everything about my experience at Treebeerd's was worthy of a King, and I am sure to Return frequently to bask in its glory!
Don't be a Smaug and hoard this place all to yourself! Light the beacons, and spread the word to all the lands of Men and Elves! Fly, you fools...to...
Read moreI found this wonderful taphouse completely by accident. I was out wandering and it started pouring, so I ducked into Treebeerd's Taphouse to get a cider, and to get out of the rain. I noticed some tables had flights, and the next thing I knew I was ordering a flight of all 6 of the ciders they had on tap! The woman who assisted me was so kind and patient! I also ordered a meat and cheese board, I realized while standing in line that it was dinner time on my jet lagged body, and the meat and cheese board was the perfect meal to accompany the cider. Everyone was so kind and welcoming, I had some awesome conversations! I will absolutely return on my next trip to Portland and highly suggest it for any beer or...
Read moreOkay - I'm from out of town and was expecting to see some cool LOR memorabilia or at least an original mural or two. Or a South Farthing Brown Ale brewed just for this place. How about a nod to the Green Dragon? There was none of any of this. There was a small, but cool map that I couldn't get close to because only one person sitting at the end of the bar could get close to it. The LOR was playing of one of the two televisions, and that was it. Why go for the cool name if you're not going to even try to do a little something with the theme? PDX has hundreds of bars - this one was fine if you just want a beer, but not worth any effort...
