Based on the buzz around the opening in pv and a hilarious video about a kid asking for "amazing brains for dinner" (the kid was asking for Raising Canes) I just had to try it out. I had to go at some point when my wife was out of town since she can't eat there as she is gluten free and the only things she can eat there is the coleslaw and probably the fries.
Starting with the positives... The quality of the chicken is top-notch. The chicken was perfectly cooked. The garlic bread was good (I would have liked a little more garlic flavor, but that's just me). The staff seemed very courteous, friendly, and well trained.
Now for the negatives... The obvious one is that I had to go without my family as there is nothing there for my wife. The chicken was flavorless. There was no inherent flavor in the breading or chicken itself to warent wanting to come back. They don't have any choices in sauce. Sometimes, a lack of flavor in a base product can be made up for because the sauces they offer are so incredibly good that the base product is exactly what you need; a blank canvas. The only "sauces" that they offer are their "Canes sauce," Louisiana Hot Sauce, and ketchup. I have no clue if the "Canes sauce" is any "good" or not because it is a mayo based sauce. I don't do mayo. If you like mayo and enjoy their sauce... good for you. If you are like me and the taste and thought of raw eggs turns your stomach, welcome to bland town USA. There are just too many chicken places in the area that are far better. Two of them are within easy walking distance (one next door and one and one on the other side of 69). Cocky's, which is an easy drive, also blows Canes out of the water. Unfortunately, I see zero reason to go back.
On a side note, I brought the coleslaw home for my wife to try (again, I don't do mayo). She said that "it isn't bad, just a bit heavy on...
Read moreHow you gonna do us like this Canes? We’re faithful Caniacs. When my Daughter got her first few teeth several years back so we took her to Flagstaff Canes. 1 bite of a chicken finger with a little Canes sauce, her eyes bugged out and she immediately starting shaking for more. Fistfuls of chicken fingers is perfectly acceptable in our house when eating Canes, but here’s what’s not! Below is the junk mail I just received in my mailbox from Canes, now here’s the offense, there is no coupon! No bogo! Nothing! Just “Hey, we’re open”. How you gonna spam my mailbox and not include some incentive? You really think I didn’t know you’re open? “Hey Taylor’s, this Chicken throwdown is on us! ONE LOVE…” WTH! It’s like Aunt D sending cards with no money… Psssh! (Sorry Aunt D we actually appreciate the thoughtful cards, we’re trying to guilt Canes into free crap!) BTW, we just got done eating there and found that in the mail after going. Joking aside, I think the Chicken fingers did get smaller, my wife seemed to agree. Spending $50.00 on 3 Canes meals is tough nowadays on the real! Shrinking fingers and all🤷♂️, it’s still bomb though! 4* for that…
Update: Apparently, recession era Canes leaves folks wanting! The new marketing scheme of Cornish Game Hen chicken fingers didn’t go over well with locals, Thanks Brandon! This is America, we like our trucks big, and Chicken fingers bigger! I forgot to say they messed up our drink order too, so...
Read moreHave always been a huge canes fan since I moved to Arizona, always grabbing some when in Phoenix or Flagstaff. Myself, like many others, were ecstatic to find out that there was an opening of a restaurant in Prescott. My friends and I waited a little bit and went to get some takeout two days after the grand opening. We were pleased as we only waited 15-20 minutes and were met with exceptional customer service. Normally, I order the “Box Combo”, but this time I decided to order the “Caniac Combo” with extra sauce. The food came quickly, and I looked in the bag at the box, and it said “Caniac Combo”, and we got on our way home. Once home, I was extremely disappointed to find that it had the contents of a “Box Combo”. Additionally, the amount of fries was lacking, there was a missing piece of toast, and the extra sauce that I ordered was not there. As this happened at home, I would have no proof of this. I was very frustrated that I had to spend nearly $20 on something worth only $12. I do understand that they are just opening, but neither my friends nor anyone else I talked to that has been to the restaurant recently have had any issues. I think for now Canes will have to wait for a Phoenix or...
