Papa’s Uptown has been a long-time favorite for my wife and I since they were located on Whitespar. In fact, Papa’s was the first place that I took my wife on a date more than 8 years ago. The food is still delicious!
My wife and I are foodies and we love everything that we’ve tried from here. The atmosphere would be a 6 Star rating on Google if I could give them one because they truly have one of the most authentic experiences in Prescott. We highly recommend to everyone we meet to go on a date at Papa’s.
To begin, their customer service is a 5 star experience. They greet every customer as though they are a part of the family. The experience continues once you sit down as they are very attentive and are not in a rush when they are taking your order. Drinks are filled without having to ask, your order is taken in a timely manner, and the food is served quickly.
As soon as you sit down, they start bringing out the garlic bread. This garlic bread will literally melt in your mouth! (Don’t be tempted to get full on the garlic bread unless you decide to split a meal which I highly advise that you do)
Their minestrone soup is filled with flavor and comes with every entre, unless you would rather have salad (which from previous experience is outstanding as well).
The Chicken Parmigiana is unbelievably rich and every bite I took was like an explosion of flavors. With the atmosphere already giving you a true Italian experience, this entre simply takes your experience from your eyes to your taste buds as every bite you take is an explosion of flavor in your mouth. The home-made tomato sauce, the blend of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese melted on top is very unique and delicious!
The lasagna is an Italian classic. Although it is a bit more saucy than usual, the special sauce of the night (spicy tomato sauce) was full of flavor and just the right spice level to still enjoy the rest of the meal. Papa’s lasagna is definitely one of our favorites in town.
Finally, desert. The tiramisu was amazing! The flavor will leave your taste buds craving it when you leave for the night.
Overall, our experiences through the years have been what a fine-dining restaurant experience should be. They have maintained a very high standard of food and service. One of our all-time favorites and hope it will...
Read moreThis quaint little piece of home is nestled amongst the plethora of Cortez streets faux antiquities dealers and boutiques. It displays a classic and picturesque (literally) facade which subtly whispers "this is the gem you are looking for." From the moment you enter and are greeted by warm and welcoming hostesses, carrying through the moment you re-emerge into the cool crisp air of local winter, or, the hustle and bustle of a summers excursion, Papa's uptown does not disappoint. Though it's frontage insists that this is casual dining, the upscale decor, well-dressed and courteous staff, and well-thought-out floor plan declare Papa's uptown as far more fine than casual. Extra large portions, which include soup or salad, tend to earmark restaurants which favor quantity over quality, however, Papa's does not fit into this demographic; the food here is over-the-top delicious. Creamy buttery Alfredo adorning perfectly cooked pasta only one-ups the surprisingly exceptional execution of the aptly named Mama's minestrone. Beginning with first taste, the surprising quality maintains its luster until the moment you are forced to begrudgingly throw in your fork for want of another belt loop, Papa's kitchen hits home run upon home run. You may think you have seen all the surprises Papa's has to offer after your leftovers are hand-packed by friendly and courteous wait staff, or perhaps even after partaking in one of the many classic Italian desserts the menu has to offer; yet, I assure you, the final surprise is delivered with the check. As a downtown local, I have enjoyed cuisine from nearly every restaurant there is to be found in this area. Barring a propensity for racking up large alcohol tabs, you can find no better price, and I daresay you will be very hard-pressed to find better food. Though I was disappointed when it was time to leave I quickly found pleasure in the knowledge that this only meant I was that much closer to my next visit. Papa's uptown is an absolute must. Whether you are a local, or vacationing, do not cheat yourself out of the best dining experience downtown Prescott has to offer. Thank you Darby, for excellent suggestions and service, and thank you Papa's for renewing my faith in downtown Prescott's ability to provide...
Read moreOne of the best dining experiences we had on our trip to Prescott.
Food was FABULOUS. Service was friendly and FABULOUS. Ambiance was FABULOUS. Food was an amazing VALUE.
When asking a few people where the best ITALIAN FOOD was in Prescott, the universal answer was Papa’s. It was a short drive from our Airbnb and parking was simple. It was down the street from Peregrine Books, a fantastic little book store we went to earlier in the week.
Before I describe the food, please know that reservations are suggested, especially on weekends or peak times. Okay, this is all for my public service announcements. Now on to the food:
Bread - complimentary, hard crust served with soft butter.
Minestrone Soup - complimentary, brought out by Mama herself. Delightful soup with diced vegetables, rolled pasta and sausage. It is a good way to start a meal. It takes her 3 hours just to simmer it each day.
Caesar Salad - good, really good, but maybe a little more cheese than I am used to. Still ate all of it.
Chicken Prosciutto - lightly breaded chicken, topped with prosciutto, cheese and served over pasta with Alfredo. My son would not share and the portions were huge.
Portobello Mushroom Ravioli - chewy and flavorful mushrooms in a cheese sauce that you will want bread to soak up.
Cassava Cake - lemon caked with cream, cherries and chocolate chips. I loved it, but did not love the chocolate chips although they did add a certain crunch.
Mama even checked on us and took time to make sure our meal was good. She was a delight, as was the army of staff that made sure food came out hot, dishes were removed and drinks were refilled.
Just a very pleasant experience.
On a BUDGET: Choose an entree and it comes with soup or salad.
Want to Splurge: Skip the appetizer (you will be too full) and order an entree, dessert and pair with a drink or bottle of wine. We skipped the alcohol, but had everything else and only spent less than $60 for...
