Coffee shops are not easy places to run, while a coffee itself is thought of as water and roasted beans by some, the operations end of it can be extremely exhausting. Factors like how products come and go from the place, customer service, and seating are considered.
Small Point Cafe is a coffee shop that has incredible dedication to it's craft, not just through the coffee, but the baked goods (of which one was gluten-free), and their waste management efforts.
First, Small Point has a big impact on the street it's located on, Westminster St. Being in the downtown area can be tough because there is a lack of coffee shops that want to serve customers past 2:00 PM. Downtown PVD is a place that is lacking some forms of investment, as foot traffic dramatically decreases after working hours. Yet, Small Point is part of a group of small businesses that make Westminster a welcoming stroll in winter and summer. There are trendy thrift stores, vibrant restaurants, and a shoe store that sells collectibles. Further down the street is a bookshop. Small Point accentuates all these businesses by providing pedestrians with a wonderful coffee experience.
Second, they deal with waste by sorting out what is trash, recyclables, and organics for composting. A good business with an eye to sustainability will need to consider composting, because it diverts waste from a landfill and turns food waste into a viable product. Small Point does this.
If you are jonesing for a city stroll, and an experience that costs less than $10. Walking through the downtown, and stopping by this place, is highly recommended. Like any city, it has growing pains, so please be aware of your surroundings. That awareness, though, will help you take in the awesome beauty of the streets, the architecture, and a majority of the people that are friendly, including the wonderful employees of...
Read moreMy review was from like 6 years ago so I’m going to update it. I LOVE when a cafe has couches! Plenty of great seating in here. A couple of the couches here are pretty beat up from the traffic BUT they’re soooo comfortable and I hope they never get rid of them. There are cute plants and a lot of little things like now there’s a tiny gallery for the Providence Raptors guy (photographer of the birds in the city on Instagram) which I love The inside is really fun and has plenty of space for working on a laptop (usually a bit harder to find a seat during busy times and weekends) Love this place. A bit of a menu for a cafe. Good sandwiches and quick little quiches. Their lattes are great BUT They make their own version of chai and London fog that isn't like any other one I've ever had. I'm usually a huge tea person but I’ve never had one i enjoyed here. Their blend is not for me. Some people like it though. Everything else is great. They used to have a beet latte and an avocado toast with red onion and balsamic that was PERFECTLY seasoned and so good but they no longer have it on the menu but if it’s not too busy, they will usually make it for you anyways if they know what you’re talking about. There’s one dude who pretty consistently works here who I LOVE and will go on and help me with the menu if I’m being indecisive. Most of the people here are really sweet and helpful. They have pre made foods and stuff for to go but the dine in options usually take kind of a while when it’s busy so you take a number and have a seat and wait to be called. Definitely recommend coming here on like a weekday during off times where you can spend as long as you’d like, get any one of the sofas you want and relax in here. There is free wifi available and the restroom is typically...
Read moreYALL. PLEASE TELL ME IF I AM BEING U REASONABLE. I have been here 3x before, today being my 3rd time. Coffee and food was delicious, as usual (thank you!). But I found 2 long black hairs impressed into my cream cheese bagel. Kind of cringe, but I have worked in corporate and local food service for 5 years. It happens. I picked it out and ate my food because it was yummy, and I was hungry. I noticed the girl who took my order had her black hair hanging down her back, sans hair tie. Hhhm. OK. I would have never been allowed this during my stint in food service.
Then the kicker happened when a medium sized dog was walked into the Cafe. No questions asked. And this particular young lady came out from behind the counter and began to pet the dog and ask lots of interested questions about him. Trust me I love dogs, I am a side gig pet sitter.
But as someone who recently invested much time, money, and energy to release intestinal parasites. I was disappointed to see someone who was preparing food petting a dog she did not know. After my personal experience with intestinal parasites (which trust me. Are much, much more common than you think. Especially if you have pets--dogs/cats/horses/etc) I was really disappointed to see this. I'm really careful to not obtain more. And this was a bummer to see from a food safety point of view. Best of luck to yall going forward. But I will not be returning de to this lack of comprehension in food safety (not tying hair up and petting a DOG which should not have been in the RESTAURANT in the first place. Thanks for understanding and again. I welcome corrections if I'm totally...
