Food was not good. The la galbi was the best, flavorful and tender. However one order comes with one piece and we have a table of 4. Each table is limit 3 orders of meat so 3 order of la galbi is 3 pieces. So ok that's fine but then service is super slow and meat takes forever to come out. They are understaff so it takes a while to take the order and bring out the order is a no no. We waited 30 mins when they have plenty of table but under staff. There were lots of open table but they didn't open that section which is ok understandable. Food the premium steak with bone in 1 per person on the a plus menu side was 37.99 which is ok but that steak was tough and not it. The marinated Chuck rib and rib fingers were also tough and not tender and soft. Some of the rib finger meat was frozen still when broight out to the table. The beef tongue was tough and we didn't overcook it, just not a good quality but it did look so pretty when raw but when cooked and took a bite it was not it. We were so dissapointed with the portion size of the food, like ayce but not really because they bring out personal size portion per order of meat. A disaapointed dinner turned out to be 2 and half hrs long duration including waiting time, which is fine but the meat isn't it again. Their version of kimchi was not even a real kimchi, the marination doesn't even soak up the cut of cabbage they use. We liked only their kombucha pumpkin potatoes salad, the house salad, la galbi, the instant ramen bar where you can make your own ramen. The soy garlic chicken wings was perfectly fried but the sauce had some cinnamon or a funky taste which made us didn't want more than one bite. I am dissapointed with the previous overpriced kbbq before and now we got the same experience with this new business. We will not return due to slow service, meat quality is not good and still frozen, small personal portions, no real kimchi, took forever to bring out meat and we had to ensure we getting at least a specific amount of meat because we were not satisfy and still didn't get to try all the meat due to limit of 3 meat order per round. At least let us order more if you are slow and behind because of the extra time to bring it out. It's easy just feed us and give us more or do better calculation on turning in the order so we have enough for 4 not just personal one person size. If a ayce doesn't feed you and limits us and we feel restricted and with bad quality meat, we won't return. One and done. Just this is our experience on the first time and all 4 say we ain't coming back. Good luck and hope this review helps improve the business. I don't usually write bad reviews but it was a 2 star...
Read moreI was excited to hear there was a Rancho location opening since the closest location is in Concord.
Made a reservation 36 hours in advance for a party of 7. We placed our order, and did not get the full order that was placed. We called the server to check in our order. Turns out the manager said we can only place 4 orders at a time (as in 4 plates) and the remaining items got cancelled by the manager. We let the server know that we have a party of 7 and that would be too inefficient, and requested if an exception can be made. The server relayed the information to the manager, and we noticed we got a new server immediately. Not sure at the time what happened, but we noticed it was odd. But the original server that was supposed to be serving the section we were placecd was relocated to a different one.
After 1 hour, we got maybe 10 plates total, for a party of seven. The proportion was on the smaller end, more suited for a very small group, not a party of 7. We requested to speak to the manager, and we were told by the server, the manager said she refused to speak with us at all and would rather use a server as a messenger relay. Frustrated, we confronted the head server and eventually the manager came out, then decided she wanted to "talk to us". The manager "wanted" to know what's wrong, what can be done correctly, and also wanted to "check on our table to see how we are doing". We knew this was an insult from the manager, so we requested a refund. We got a refund and walked out, decided to eat somewhere else as we were still starving.....because we only got 10 mini proportion plates in 1 hour for a party of 7.
The other issues I observed was extremely inneficient operating procedures. Small party sizes (like 2-4) were scattered at different sections across the entire resturant, making customer management extremely inefficient since staff needs to run across the place back and forth all the time, no dedicated server for certain sections so everyone is running back and forth, and making everyone be multi-role for each section which is inefficient. Also no dedicated personnel for checkout or cleaning duty. The manager at this branch clearly lacks the skills to properly manage a resturaunt, and also very likely has a standard operating procedure that is so lackluster it needs to be thoroughly revised. When we went, staff to customer ratio was fine, if anything they were slightly overstaffed for the night. But it was obvious there was no clear defined role for each staff member, and they were trying to operate as "jack of all trades".
TLDR: Avoid the rancho location at all cost. Visit the Concord location instead, you will have a much...
Read moreI rolled into Ohgane Korean BBQ on a Friday at 11:30 AM with a hungry party of five and the confidence of a group that hadn’t eaten breakfast. At first, things looked promising only one other table in the whole restaurant, so we basically had VIP service. Our server was attentive, grill plates were swapped out faster than a K-drama plot twist, and I thought, “Wow, maybe the internet haters are just dramatic.”
By mid-meal though, with a whopping five total tables filled (a true Friday lunch rush 🙃), service slowed down. A few of our items went MIA until we asked about them, which felt less like a kitchen delay and more like they simply forgot we existed. But hey, the food came eventually, so, yay?
We went all-in with the A+ meal (because we’re fancy like that). Each round lets you order 3 appetizers, 3 proteins, and 3 sushi rolls. Sounds great, right? Except the meat was… fine. Like, edible, but you could taste the difference compared to other KBBQs nearby. And yes, the rumors are true: the LA galbi comes with literally one piece per order. One. For five people. We basically played a sad round of “meat roulette.” Honestly, given the quality, one bite was enough, so maybe they were just doing us a favor.
The sushi? Mediocre. Think “supermarket sushi that got dressed up for a night out.” The Las Vegas Roll deserves its own cautionary tale. I took one bite, gagged (and not in the fun drag brunch way), and met an unexpected explosion of vinegar and sriracha. Sour + spicy usually works, but not here. It was giving “chemistry experiment gone wrong.”
But the true villain of the meal: the banchan.
Some of it tasted spoiled. Like, I-spat-it-out-and-I-never-spit-food-out spoiled. And mama did not raise a spitter cause that's for quitters. Today, I was. The broccoli and bean sprouts was funky in a way that felt personal. Tatsted spoiled. The fish cake was mushy, the japchae bland, and the only saving grace was the aggressively sour kimchi, which doubled as a palate cleanser from the other crimes against vegetables.
📊 Final grades: -Service: 4/5 (credit where it’s due, they tried). -Meat + Sushi: 3/5 (points for existing). -Banchan: 1/5 (and that’s generous).
Verdict: If you like your side dishes questionable, your sushi supermarket-chic, and your short ribs rationed like wartime supplies, Ohgane is the place for you. Otherwise… maybe listen to the Yelp...
