Went here for dinner with a team member from Canada while we were both in Cali for training. Turns out there aren’t cool revolving sushi restaurants in Canada like this! So it was a special treat for my friend to experience this. I’ve actually been to Japan (last year) and this is the closest revolving place I’ve been to that reminds me of “real” ones in Japan. I think it might be part of the same chain of revolving sushi from there, but I haven’t dug into it that far. Anyways, I’ll get to it…this spot was super chill, clean and tasty! You can simply keep grabbing plates as they coast by on the conveyor belt, or use the touchscreen above to order a plethora of Japanese style yum-yums. We did both so we could experience it all and literally stuff ourselves. Haha. The super cool part about this particular place is every seat has a metal compartment at the end of the table or right in front of the conveyor seats that has a slide in it to put your dirty plates into. It counts your plates for you and keeps your table free from that tall stack of empty sushi plates sending them all back to the dishwashing area!! The only downside (to us, not the restaurant) is that you can get in the groove and lose track of how many plates you’re putting down! lol. Plenty of tasty basics as well as specialties here and the food ordered from the touch screen came out promptly and was delicious too. Btw, any custom/on demand orders you place come out from the kitchen on the upper conveyor belt and stop right at your seat for you! Absolutely love this style of revolving sushi and wish there were more around…. There’s music playing and yes, there’s beer to wash down your sushi too (and many other drinks to choose from). We had a great time, ate way too much and left totally satisfied with our choice of dining. One small negative, and literally the only one from me…there’s not a lot of room inside since the conveyor belt system takes up a lot of space, so there isn’t a waiting area inside. As you can imagine, a line can form easily with people waiting to get in and pull up a chair to the sushi belt since let’s be real, this isn’t a place you hang out and chit chat at, you come in and eat then leave to open up a spot for others. So the line moves pretty quickly as long as there’s mindful patrons inside but the establishment makes you wait outside after checking in. No a huge deal, but when we went is was freezing cold outside with big time winds…would’ve been nice to wait inside but it is what it is. That’s literally my only gripe and regardless I’d come back here in a heartbeat. Staff was friendly and super nice as well. ...
Read moreWe arrived for a late lunch / early dinner on Sunday around 3 p.m. We didn't have reservations. The wait time was 1 hour 45 minutes (download the app and reserve ahead!!). Luckily we only had to wait about an hour and 20 minutes for a table. There's plenty to do at Ontario Mills while you're waiting.
We came in and got a booth near the kitchen which was was great. There were a variety of rolls going around the lower conveyor belt. A menu card with photo of the next item passes a little ahead of the sushi or dessert so you know what's coming next. There are 2 plates of each sushi / dessert after each menu card. The more popular menu items show up in the line more than once so that way there's enough to get to the end of the restaurant.
Everything on the conveyor is $2.90/ plate. Most are 2 pieces of sushi or 4 slices of roll. As you finish, you place your empty plates in the plate counter receptacle at the back of the table. (Plates only, please, no trash.) Every 5 plates deposited a little video plays on the menu/order screen at the table. Every 15 plates fed into the counter earns a gashapon (capsule toy). The story is a silly adventure and changes after each 15-plate set.
If you want a different roll or don't want to wait for the lower conveyor belt, you can order directly off of the menu. If it isn't otherwise noted, the cost of the item is $2.90. They offer ramen, miso, hand rolls, deserts, cheesecake, and other tasty items. When your order off of the menu directly it will be sent to your table on the upper conveyor. You get a notification on-screen just before your order is sent to the table.
At the end of the meal, the price is totaled by counting the plates you've placed into the receptacle. All $2.90 items, whether ordered off of the menu or from the lower conveyor are served on the same plates so they fit in the receptacle to be counted towards your total. You use the touch screen to begin the cash out process. If any plates still have food on them your server will count and add them to the tab.
We would definitely like to return. It was nice to have a variety of sushi at a reasonable price. 10/10 fun experience...
Read moreI’ve been to this location about 4 times now and I am not going to go back anymore. There’s no point if you have a reservation because you’re going to be waiting at a minimum of 30 past that.
This last time was the last straw. I had a reservation, got there 10 minutes early and did the check in. 10 minutes past the reservation time I checked in with the attendant since I saw people that literally signed up(not checked in for reservation) get seated. They said they were behind. I didn’t want to push it so I walked away to wait some more. Another 10 minutes pass and still nothing.
At 25 minutes past my reservation time, I go and check again. I was told sorry, you’re coming up. It should just be another 10-15 minutes. After that 15 minutes was up, I saw a couple go in that I know for sure showed up and signed up after while I was waiting. At this point we are 45 minutes past my reservation time. I told the girl that people have gone in when they signed up after my reservation time. I was told, “sorry, we are behind on those reservations and we are also seating people that we “forgot” to check in first. You’re coming up soon. There are still a few people ahead of you.”
At that point I was like just cancel the reservation because it was hot outside and my daughter started getting a migraine. While we were walking away, the girl yells that we were actually next and did we still want to cancel. My daughter said she felt like she was going to throw up due to the heat and being hungry so I said yes, cancel it.
I really don’t understand the point of having a reservation system if you don’t honor it and let people in after the reservation window and skip people with reservations. Furthermore, I literally saw the busboy take about 10 minutes to clean 1 table. I don’t know if that has anything to do with how we say 4-5 groups of people leave and only 1-2 get seated at a time.
I’m never going to the Rancho location again. Even the Little Tokyo location is quicker and more efficient than they are and it’s a bigger location. I’ve been to the Little Tokyo, Glendale and other locals and they are far better...
