I have enjoyed this place for a quick and relative healthy and moderately priced breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a few years now. The downtown location is my favorite atmosphere and I do like the drive through's selection of quick eats as well. Lately however I've been noticing changes in not just the menu items (which, additions are great and removals I'll deal with although the black bean burger was a great veggie burger and I'm not even vegetarian. Seems unfair to reduce veg options for those that are.) but in the ingredients used. The Jamaican Jerk chicken bowl was one of my favorites, however in my most recent order what had once been evenly spiced strips of grilled meat and whole half slices of grilled pineapple had changed to lesser quality chicken pieces coated in too much spice and what definitely felt like canned pineapple bits. They used to have a wide selection of breakfast pastries and maybe I've just been going at the wrong times but it seems like they're phasing those out in favor of some bundt cake push. Those don't look appetizing to me but I'll reserve judgement since I haven't had one. Other items are gone that I miss too, like the cowboy breakfast bowl / biscuits in general (this was a while back). I feel like they are expanding and trying to cut costs, and the pandemic probably didn't help, but I'm not super happy about it if the trend continues (honestly, mostly just the tiny chunks of canned pinapple) This was a decent spot in Redding and I've never had a bad experience with the service or anything like that, I would just hate if the quality...
Read moreI was looking forward to grabbing breakfast here with a friend and getting some studying done, but unfortunately, I never even made it inside. Upon parking, I was immediately approached by an employee who claimed to be the manager, rudely telling me that the spot I parked in was for From the Hearth customers only—despite there being no sign indicating this. She then added that I could only park for two hours. Again, no sign stating this, just her word. Instead of welcoming me as a paying customer, she chose to harass me in the parking lot over a space that wasn’t marked with no idea that I was headed there to grab a bite to eat. The whole encounter was completely unprofessional and unnecessary. At that point, I decided to take my business elsewhere. There are plenty of other great cafés in town where customers are treated with respect. I won’t be returning to From the Hearth again.
Editing to add since I can’t respond to reply. I think it’s important that the company familiarizes themselves with CVC 22658 prior to continuing to harass and threaten people who are parking for less than 2 hours as the legal ramifications will be exposing the company to...
Read moreSurprise excellent lunch sandwiches with chips and superb dark roast coffee. Their special variety of sandwich delis were delicious! I ate blackened salmon with vegetables and feta cheese - it was good! If you take a lunch break in Redding when you are on Greyhound bus, this is the best place for the lunch - you ask staff to take out sandwiches quickly before you catch the bus. It was well worth to stop there for your hungry food. The price was reasonable and affordable. That was my first visit a few months ago
Yesterday I visited this cafe second time, and it was not good. The staff tried to cheat me for change after I paid mushroom burger - ten dollars short. She apologized to me, but her eyes looked devious. There was no salmon sandwich this time, and so, I ordered mushroom burger. It was awful - too greasy. I decided I will not go back there again because they did not provide salmon sandwich or burger, and dishonest staff. I was disappointed...
