Squire Room — Restaurant in Redding

I was really hoping that I'd love this place. I have friends who used to come here all the time before it was closed. I wanted the reopening to be just as great as I had heard! Unfortunately, I think this bar has taken on a little too much too quickly. The setting is beautiful, and feels like a 70s Bond film. The only caveat being that it is a little too bright, it needs to be darker. The real problem was the drinks: expensive and weak. The bartender seemed in way over his head and very stressed. There were other people behind the bar, but no one was actually helping the poor bartender. The drink I had was tasty, but not at all worth what I paid for it. The waitress we had was excellent and very helpful. However, the owner was constantly hovering around the room. It felt like she wanted people to move in and out quickly, which is not the atmosphere you should promote if you want people to come back. This town is very lacking in a good bar scene. What an absolute gem. This place was such a great spot. Friends of mine recommended as they have been back over the years. Feels like taking a trip in a time machine with the decor. Very 70s vibe, but done so very well. Feels very classy and service is exceptional. Everything feels intentional. The decor is perfectly matched. THE WORST SERVICE EVER. My girlfriend and I were there last night, since she had not been in since the new ownership/remodel. We were lucky to score a seat at the bar (granted the place was packed) but we were never acknowledged, no eye contact, no greeting; NOTHING. Basically we were invisible. A simple, "I will be right with you" or a nod or gesture goes a long way. Either employ your "hostess" to help with bartending (only two were behind the bar, and I assume they were the owners) or hire more staff.
