Musashi's has always been my go to spot for chirashi bowls in the Seattle area and I'm pleased that the Redmond location is living up to my expectations.
Food Whenever I come to Musashi's I always get a chirashi bowl! The fish is so fresh and taste amazing. My favorite is the salmon since its so tasty. For the chirashi bowls you are able to request for them to swap out certain fish for other fish. Sometimes I just ask for them to swap out all the fish for salmon = salmon bowl!!
There is free hot tea in the pitchers on the table. And there is free cold water in the fridge by the register (self serve).
Atmosphere A large space but there is limited seating. 6 tables and then 4 seats at the counter top. The Redmond location has a more bare atmosphere than their Seattle locations and isn't somewhere I would take someone for a fancy feeling sushi experience (the Seattle one I would though).
Pricing Standard pricing for sushi and fish. They have pretty cheap rolls compared to other places that I have seen. Chirashi bowl is about $18 and very worth compared to other places that do chirashi.
Service Self serve for most things. Order up front, they bring the food, and they clean the tables. Get your own water.
Other Musashi's started out in one location in Seattle years ago, but I was surprised to find out they have expanded their locations...
Read morePoor, minimal flavor and cheap quality food showing a rushed prep. NOT authentic Japanese food. Chicken and beef skewers had burnt taste and charring but no added seasoning. Sukiyaki bowl had little taste. Front counter guy was polite but disorganized as he just threw all 3 of our dinners many dishes in front of me and wasn't going to sort them until I asked what belonged to each meal. Miso soup not deeply flavorful as it should be but seemed a little watered down. Sashimi was merely ok as it seemed fresh enough but not particularly tender so it's not the choice fatty tuna. Their special bento advertised an omelet but they served a ridiculously tiny 2 inch ring of egg that was maybe 1/4 inch wide. The accompanying grilled vegetables were forgettable too, lacking flavor and just consisting of little skewers of mushroom, onion. The chopsticks were the cheapest disposable kind that gave me a splinter. We were disappointed overall and won't be returning. Only if I needed fast food would I consider ordering again as they seem to be ok at quick service. If you want a real Japanese restaurant with flavorful Japanese food, go to Izumi...
Read moreWas looking forward to trying this place, as sushi options are limited in Redmond. However, having just picked up my order, I can say for certain I will never return. I knew the second I opened the boxes that there is no way this place deserves a 4.8 rating. It looked like the rolls had been made by a child. And each nigiri was the size of a grown man's fingers, if not bigger (see photo for size reference in relation to chopstick). Quantity does not equal quality, chef. I then took a bite of the steak-sized seared salmon, the char of which masked a pungent, spoiled fish taste. I wouldn't dare try the yellowtail nigiri. Speaking of yellowtail, however, the hamachi roll was lacking the green onion, which is standard ANYWHERE else. And the oshinko roll had no flavor at all, as if it had been sitting out for a few days. Perhaps it was just an off-night, but when there was nothing good in a single order, I'd lean towards some grave, recurring issues. This place makes Oto Sushi look and taste like Shiro's in downtown Seattle....
