Husband & I had breakfast here about 7:45 AM Tues 4/30/24. We’ve eaten here many times over the years when in Reno from the Bay Area. Love it. This early morning there were only about 4? 5? booths occupied when the waitress (slender attractive short-haired blond) sat us at a nice front booth. We placed our order - mine traditional Eggs Benedict. Meals were first delivered to 2 customers next to us who arrived after us. Okay. Then our meals came and my Eggs Benedict looked great. Cut into the egg, and it was hard boiled. So I kindly called over the waitress, and she was as surprised as I was, and she took my plate to correct it. After a few minutes, she came back with my plate and the hollandaise was a darker color with kinda lumps in it and it filled my plate full like gravy, messy. I thanked the waitress and dived in. My first bite and the hollandaise had a cheesy taste, not hollandaise, and it was cold. Refrigerated COLD. I kindly called over the waitress and told her this, and I asked her to put her finger on the tip of the sauce and she felt it was cold. She said something about she’s worked at many restaurants, and sometimes hollandaise comes out cold. REALLY???!! She asked if I wanted to have it heated up and I said yes. She took my plate over to the microwave and put it in. She pressed the button and let it run its course, checked the plate and then put it back in the microwave and hit the button again. I told my husband that the egg will be overcooked. She brought my plate back and at this point my husband was about fini with his breakfast. He asked to taste my hollandaise and agreed that it did not taste like hollandaise - it was cheesy and thick with small lumps which indicates curdling. Was this leftover from the fridge and not continuously whisked as hollandaise should be prepared or reheated? This was fridge reheat? I ate one egg which did run as a poached egg should, and then I flipped up the thin slices of the ham and saw that the English muffin was burnt from the griddle and tasted strongly of greasy grill. Nasty taste!!! There was also a vinegary aftertaste this stayed with me later. I could not believe this funky plate of food. I left most of it - couldn’t eat. I tipped the waitress five bucks which she took from my hand and apologized - saying “Peg’s hollandaise is a special sauce made with lemon” - my 2nd plate sauce did not taste of lemon. I feel that the cook was lax and slopped it up on the second plate on purpose. I think that the manager should know and the owner should definitely know this…what goes on when they’re not there. Please don’t let the cook tell you a story that we, the customers, are incorrect. Every other visit over years & years were amazing for us and friends that we have brought with us. I even asked the waitress if Peg’s had a new owner? There was only one cook there that morning, a younger middle-aged hispanic man and the single blond waitress who was holding down the fort. When my husband and I walked out, we both agreed that I should’ve just sent the $16 plate back, paid for my coffee and left. But again - we were in such shock as to how extremely terrible that food was. We will never eat there again. By the way it was my...

Overpriced for mediocre food. I've been here twice, and doubt there will be a third visit. The first time, I showed up after the rest of my party arrived and my food came about 30 seconds after I sat down (they ordered for me). I had the chicken-fried steak breakfast. It was OK. The steak was under cooked, but the gravy was good. The service was also OK. All in all that visit was mediocre at best. The second visit wasn't nearly as good. We showed up after the breakfast rush so most everyone in the restaurant was finishing their meals with maybe 2 or 3 tables waiting for food. We ordered, then we waited and waited for about 25 minutes for our food to arrive. My seat had a good view of the kitchen and there were 3 cooks back there but nothing was being put out to be served. After getting the food the main disappointment began. I ordered the egg burger. I' m a big fan of egg burgers, I think they're awesome, and they always taste great because the yolk runs all over the burger and disguises any bad cooking with the yolk flavor. Unfortunately that didn't happen this time. The burger patty was cooked to a crisp, and the hash browns and cheddar cheese were burnt. The ham on the burger was uncooked and cold. To make things worse, as soon as I took a bite, the over cooked patty crumbled and the burger couldn't hold itself together and I was left with a mess on the plate that I had to then eat with a fork. My wife ordered the club sandwich, and when it came it had avocado on it (which was NOT in the description in the menu). If it was me I'd think that surprise avocado was a nice bonus, but my wife can't eat avocado (let's just say it messes up her digestive system...). Needless to say she was not impressed. Who doesn't include ingredients in a menu description, especially when it's an ingredient that normally would be a plus?! That visit was bad. Bad food, surprise ingredients, and a super long wait. So I'm cutting the difference between the two visits and saying the place is just fair. On an other note, if you compare their prices to just about any other diner/breakfast place in town, Peg's is consistently $2-$3 dollars more expensive on just about every item on the menu. If the food was better the price difference might make sense, but the food is OK at best. If you're thinking about going to Pegs, save time and money and go...

I’ve been going to this Peg’s in Reno and sparks for years and have always enjoyed it with friends and family alike. It’s our go to breakfast spot! At least it use to be. Today I went in with my family to celebrate a special occasion and everything was fine as usual until we met the most unprofessional amateur server, Crystal I believe her name was, who created the worst dining experience I have ever had. Something so simple turned into a whole dilemma because of her rude demeanor and attitude towards us the paying guests when we were already comfortably seated and did not choose to move booths after being asked if we could, not that we had to. After politely declining the offer to move because we were already comfortably sat and had already ordered, she took the situation personally and began to attack my family member personally as well as making very unprofessional comments in front of the rest of my family and other tables present in the restaurant. I can’t believe that someone like that is allowed to work as a restaurant employee with so little understanding of customer service. She should know how to speak to guest in a service oriented manner and mediate situation not elevate them and create hostile environments FOR PAYING GUEST as a result! I was left so uncomfortable by the whole situation so I decided that it was best for me and my family to cancel our food order and leave. I walked over to her shortly after she left our table and spoke to her in a calm and polite manner, even after her disrespectful remarks and demeanor towards my family, letting her know I had decided that it would be best if we leave because we no longer felt comfortable so I will be cancelling our food order, SHE PROCEDED TO WALK AWAY FROM ME WHILE I WAS STILL TALKING TO HER! She has no interest whatsoever in how her guests are treated. Instead of being a professional in her role within the restaurant she again showed her incompetence and disregard for any service standards. We took our business elsewhere but I hope that she gets the help she needs in understanding how to work inside the service industry so she can grow as a person and more importantly so she can grow to be functional at her job and eventually a professional in her work....

A Must-Visit Diner: Peg’s Glorified Ham and Eggs By Jorge Berlioz Nestled in the heart of Midtown Reno, Peg’s Glorified Ham and Eggs stands as a beacon of classic American diner culture. Stepping inside, you’re immediately immersed in a bustling yet harmonious environment where the staff works like a well-oiled machine—efficient, friendly, and fast. Martha, my server, epitomized this multitasking spirit, seamlessly juggling tasks while still offering top-notch service. The décor gives the diner an authentic feel, filled with a cozy, homey clutter that reminds you of the classic franchise diners of the past but without the sterile corporate touch. It feels lived-in, with walls adorned in a charming overload of nostalgic memorabilia, adding to the overall experience. I opted for their famous Glorified Ham and Eggs, and it didn’t disappoint. While I usually prefer my ham a little more cooked, Peg’s version was expertly done—tender and flavorful. The sunny-side-up eggs were perfectly cooked, the bacon crisp, and the hashbrowns were a real standout. It’s rare to find good hashbrowns in Reno these days, but Peg’s nailed it. I also ordered fries on the side, which were seasoned just right, adding a satisfying crunch to the meal. To wash it down, the iced tea was refreshingly crisp—simple, but perfect. Peg’s is more than just a diner; it’s a Reno institution. It offers a slice of eclectic Americana that’s becoming harder to find. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this spot is a must-visit for breakfast lovers. Its historical significance and prime location make it a quintessential part of the Reno dining scene. Peg’s serves not just food but a sense of place—one that captures the essence of the city itself. Delicious, welcoming, and distinctly local, this diner has stood the test of time for all the right reasons.

We spent a weekend in Reno for a concert but wanted to check out the local breakfast spot. This place appealed to me based on popularity and many locations. The diner is cute, and the food was highly rated. The husband had the meat lovers omelet, which was an omelet of the specials of the day. It was huge! Came with hash browns and UNLIMITED toast. They had white, wheat, and sourdough bread. The sourdough was amazing, and we learned it comes from a local bakery. Winning!! I had the made fresh Cornbeef hash with salted onions and peppers, topped with 2 eggs (however you like it), side of hash browns, and both wheat and sourdough toast. It is the known has the best and they did not disappoint. I ate the entire thing. The cornbeef hash was good with my over easy eggs. It was great topped on my toast. It was perfect with a bite of hash browns. The eggs Benedict on the menu are the local favorites. I am usually an Eggs Benedict type of girl, but I am so glad I diverted and tried something different!!! My belly was so happy! The service! If you go to this location, ask for Crystal (not sure of spelling). She always had a smile, and our coffee cups were never empty. We were seated right away when we arrived. We could tell it was a happening place because there were customers rolling in constantly. Tables were cleared quickly. Water cups were never empty. Great, great service and SO friendly. So if you want a great breakfast spot in Reno, either with family or friends or after a night of partying- this is the spot to go. And ask for Crystal!!!! Hats off to the cooks who were cranking out the food!! Delicious!

I've had this place saved in my phone as a place to go to for a few years now.   We finally got to go.   Parking is a little tough. There's limited street parking.  I had gone in to place my to go order while my husband looked for parking. Upon entering,  this place is decorated typical diner style. Random pictures and posters.  It's definitely been around a while.   It's shown some wear and random clutter. I came shortly after them opening, and they were pretty busy already.  There was one guy taking the order on a huge yellow notepad and one cook.  The guy taking my order was super nice.  I placed my order and just observed the area.   The cook seemed like he had burned some things, and I was afraid it was our order. We ordered; 1.  Loco moco - I was skeptical of this, but I figured I'd give it a try.   The patty was cooked perfectly, and the gravy was delicious. The mac salad was basic, nothing special. I mostly ate the rice and patty 2.  Corn beef hash - This is my typical safe go-to as a backup.   He even asked me if I was ok with peppers on it.   Which let me believe it was made fresh in-house.  It was amazing with the fluffy cooked scrambled eggs, I didn't need anything else. 3.  Breakfast sandwich with bacon and sausage - This was ginormous.  It was cheesy, and the way the egg just dripped down the middle, it was heaven. 4.  French toast - This was crispy and sweet.  You didn't even need syrup. Overall, the experience wasn't bad, and the food was tasty.   I will definitely be back the next time we are in the area.
