Rum Sugar Lime — Restaurant in Reno

What is with all the hype? Came here with high expectations, instead what we found was just another bar with no real identity. For a place that calls itself rum sugar and lime, I expected to be able to get a decent mojito. Instead what I received was an unbalanced drink with no muddled mint, no sugarcane, and a cocktail syrup Style finish. The place was fairly busy, with two bartenders working at a steady pace. There were two additional people behind the counter who appeared to uselessly stand there and either fetch things for the bartenders or otherwise ignore patrons. One of my pet peeves is being at a busy bar and being ignored while people stand back there apparently doing nothing at all. That was my situation during our visit. They weren't running drinks, they weren't being barbacks, they were just kind of standing there. One girl did bring a menu over to a table (not mine), but that was about it. I also found it to be Extremely Loud. My date and I both left with the impression that this is one of those bars that everyone thinks is cool, but they can't tell you why. Rum Sugar Lime is a hidden gem! The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between sophisticated and relaxed, making it an ideal spot to unwind. I was particularly impressed with how clean and well-maintained the bar top was—one of the cleanest I’ve seen.

We tried three drinks: the Painkiller, the Dark Horse, and the Saturn. While the Dark Horse wasn’t quite to our taste, I can see it being a hit for others. The Painkiller was delicious, not overly sweet, but the real standout was the Saturn. The combination of taking a bite of the cherry and then sipping the cocktail is a flavor explosion—absolutely spectacular.

The bartenders are friendly, passionate, and clearly dedicated to their craft. It’s obvious they love what they do and have perfected their mixology skills.
