I am from out of town, I wanted the best Mexican food in Reno so I did some research. We drove 30 minutes and so did family to meet us…. We sat down at a tiny table that was so small we could even all open our menus at the same time. The most uncomfortable chairs I have ever sat in, my sons rocked back and forth about 3 inches it was so uneven. Then we looked at the menu, which has been reduce tremendously from the menus we see online. Hundreds of tequilas, less than half a page of food items. The prices had gone up around 30% from the online menu (the molcajete was listed at 34, it was $49!!!) And then when we saw that they charge $6 just to get chips and salsa we were done. I eat at a Michelin rated Mexican restaurant regularly and it’s pricy, but worth it. But they don’t charge for chips and salsa. I’ll gladly spend $7-9 for some outrageous taco, scallop, octopus, smoked goat, duck, sure I’ll spend! And I’ll buy drinks and tip well, but don’t charge me for chips and salsa. Build that cost into your menu, it’s just expected at Mexican food. Get some real chairs. Get more variety on your menu. And when I very kindly mentioned to the manager / waitress why we were leaving and that they needed to update the online menus, she was defensive and said “she wasn’t the owner” Ok, got it, that’s not your job. So I’m forced to relay the message online since she was not happy to pass along my well intended message that wasn’t even passed along with frustration. I was very nice about it. I know how hard this business is, do...
Read moreChips were stale. Veg options are nice (veggie tacos, coconut fried tofu tacos, and a stuffed pepper), but if you're vegan, the veg tacos unexpectedly came with beans and rice, which, hey, great, more food than I was expecting, but also, at least tell me that the beans are going to have cheese on them.
They have a huge selection of tequilas, but no helpful way to sample them for anyone who isn't already a certified tequila expert. If you're going to offer that many bottles, why not offer flights, or include descriptions, or train the waitstaff to have an explanatory spiel?
As is, we tried three cocktails and only one was good. The classic margarita was bad. It seriously tasted like I swallowed sea water, with almost no lime or sugar. (I thought this would be hard to mess up.) The coconut water one was meh, and the 'classy and sassy' one was pretty good.
The plates are large/tables are small so that seating four requires a lot of careful maneuvering or quickly wolfing down appetizers to get them out of the way, otherwise...
Read moreJust tried this new place on Tuesday evening. They had good deals for "Taco Tuesday." The interior design was really cute and had a nice vibe. We ordered the $8 guacamole and while it was well made guacamole, it was a very small portion for $8 - I'd highly recommend giving customers more guacamole because we had SO many chips leftover. I had the pulled pork and the chicken taco. The pulled pork was great and was my favorite. I wasn't very impressed with the chicken taco - it was chunks of chicken instead of shredded chicken. Normally when I go to a restaurant, I anticipate the chicken to be shredded. If I'm cooking tacos at home, I'll cut the chicken instead of shredding it because it takes less time. Also, they put spinach on the tacos which I was not a fan of. Overall, it was fairly good, especially the margaritas. However, I would not order the guacamole again because of the size or the chicken taco because it was something I could make...
