Absolutely top notch service and pastries! We went on Sat. 10/18/20 and let the two young ladies working know it was our first time visiting. They were incredibly pleasant and helpful, and did not rush us (even though the line was down the block). We had questions about allergens and they graciously double checked before confirming what was okay for us to select from. The pastries were perfectly flaky, buttery, delicious! We got an assortment and everything stood out but I especially enjoyed their apple and pumpkin flavored specials :) Wasn’t sure what to expect for their coffee selection but also very delicious. I ordered the maple latte and would 100% recommend it (not too sweet and temperature was just right). Also, felt comfortable with their COVID precautions. Masks required for entry, staff wore masks and gloves, and they only let folks enter individually or with their “group” (we had three people) to order. Go visit,...
Read moreYou can tell the folks who are master craftsmen. They are at Idle Hands. Don't worry about what they do best. Even their experiments are a treat. They know the magic of yeast, flour, water, salt, time, heat, and steam. Crust, crumb, and texture don't lie. Buy anything with the word sourdough in it, but don't buy the croissants or pastry. They will ruin you for the ones you used to think were a treat. Richmond is blessed with folks for whom food is a passion, but the craftsmanship needed to balance and benefit from shifting factors (like our shiftless Richmond weather) make Idle Hands stand out and shine bright. I shutter to suggest you should stop by. The lines are long enough already. But those early mornings and the passion to keep improving need to be rewarded, and I suspect there are few awake to thank them at whatever ungodly hour they are up to make sure the loafs and pastry are warm as Richmond wakes up enough to...
Read moreWe checked out Idle Hands for breakfast and we loved it so much! It most definitely lives up to the hype!
We got the Pumpkin Danish, Vegan Blackberry Danish, Iced Pumpkin Chai, and Iced Chai.
The danishes were so well made and nice and flakey! It was evident that the bakers are very skilled and take their time to laminate the dough in order to create all of the lovely layers. The pumpkin danish was delicious and tasted like an elevated cheese danish. The vegan blackberry danish was also amazing and you could not tell that it was vegan. Both of the pastries were not overly sweet, which made it perfect for breakfast. The pumpkin chai was good and had a nice spiced flavor, perfect for the fall!! Their chai is good, but definitely not my most favorite!
Be sure to go early so you have more options to choose from! They tend to sell out pretty quickly as well, so earlier...
