I got the chicken fried steak and the Philly cheese steak. The fried steak was not terrible, but certainly not good by any means. It is edible, not too salty, but the meat had a lot of gristle and the breading was twice the size of the steak. Other words there's not a lot of meat and it wasn't very good. Crust tastes good though. The gravy was not very good, you get it yourself at a self serve crockpot so don't forget that if you want gravy with your to go order. Again, not terrible, but not good. And I love chicken fried steak. If babes is a 10/10, this was about a 4/10. Also the "Texas toast" that comes with it is just a buttered slice of Ms Baird's bread. Whataburger has better toast with their chicken fingers meal.. The Philly was also not terrible but not good. The meat was not sliced steak, it was hamburger meat. Also the sandwich tasted like they dumped Italian dressing on it, or cooked with it or something. Maybe that's where the dressing for my side salad went, because my side salad did not come with any dressing.
Lastly, the prices you find on the online menu are not accurate. I saw mixed reviews saying the chicken fried steak is great and that it was very disappointing. Only reason I risked it was because the online menu said the fried steak and the philly(which is about 7 inches) was $6-7 or something. I got there and it was actually almost $9. It's still not a bad price, but for the quality it's not worth it in my opinion. For the sandwich, steak, and a Dr pepper I spent just over $20. If the food was good I'd say it's a decent price, but it was very mediocre.
Maybe the quality changes based on the time of day or the day of the week, but if the ppl who said they have great chicken fried steak had the same quality I had, I feel sorry for them. They obviously haven't ever been to Babes. I wish there was one in rockwall because if you're craving babes this place will not satisfy you. But again, it's not terrible food,...
Read moreMe and my boyfriend LOVE this place, my family and i have been coming since i was maybe 10 and im 22 now, never have ever had any problems here and the shakes are the best, we unfortunately didn’t have the greatest time tonight, sunday june 15th we came in about 8pm, they close at 10pm, and we ordered 3 shakes to-go, one for me and my bf and his dad, because we’ve been craving them, came in and ordered and i guess the girl in the back making the shakes, doesn’t like her job, or was wanting to leave, she had a red shirt on, hair slicked back in a bun, i didn’t get the chance to ask for her name, but the person taking our order looked back at her and said “we have 3 more shakes” in a annoyed way, the girl then rolled her eyes and went “are u serious” we sat down and waited and another person came up to order another shake i guess, and the front desk lady said “welp here’s another shake” and the girl in the red shirt got mad again and rolled her eyes, then a pregnant mom processed to come up with her son, just exploring finding out they had ice cream, and the girl gave her a dirty look and the mom walked away, i personally have never had a bad experience at this place and i know people have bad days, but i don’t think getting mad because some people want shakes after dinner, especially in front of the guest, is...
Read moreMy first visit to Joe Willy's was during a recent Dobbs Elementary PTA fundraising event. I will try them again, but I have mixed feelings about the place so far.
My favorite things were the sides. Fried Mushrooms, Fries Pickles, & Onion Rings were all fantastic. The fries were a little disappointing, as they were pretty soft and not crispy at all. The flavor was good, but I really did not care for the mushy texture.
The Patty Melt was alright, but really not what I was hoping for. The grilled bread was easily twice as large as the single burger patty, which leaves large portions of the sandwich with nothing but bread. The burger patty was very under seasoned, and really lacked any flavor of its own. The sandwich was saved by adding Mushroom Sauce from their topping bar.
The Philly Steak sandwich was much more flavorful, though we still added Mushroom Sauce to add moisture.
My son really liked being able to make his burger into a lettuce wrap using the lettuce from the topping bar, and also the ability to get his own pickles.
Overall, it was a mixed experience. There were some good elements, and there were some disappointing ones. I will give it at least one more shot. I do want to try the buffalo wings, and I'd like to see if the under seasoning was just a side effect of the...
