I have visited Paul Martins many times for both business and personal reasons. The food is almost always perfect, hence the many visits. I would tend to avoid during lunch hours. I decided to take my wife for lunch for a nice meal. The restaurant had perhaps 10 to 12 staff on duty, and perhaps the same amount of customers. The staff, including who I now know was the manager "JF"..spent the entire time I was there...hanging out at the end of the bar with the bartender and floor staff, and 100% ignoring the customers.
No refills, no service, wrong food delivered, cold food etc. Paul Martins isn't cheap, and isn't crazy at the same time, usually two hundred dollars for two, obviously higher when entertaining professional associates. But, basic checking in on customers for their orders, refills etc is expected. After our meal I asked who I assumed may be the manager, "excuse me, are you the manager?"...which was replied with "what do you need?" I was a little thrown off by his rude demeanor, so I asked again, and he said yes. I asked if I could get the contact for a general manager, which he replied rudely, "Do you have a pen?" I was standing at the podium at the entry....where the pens are....so I replied, "I dont." The manager then said with a bad attitude, "you don't want to talk to me?" I replied, I'd rather not, which made him increasingly angry. Since he was the leader present, and started off our interaction so unnecessarily rude....I did not feel expressing our concerns to him would be effective. He gladly provided a name, on somebody else's business card and said he would let them know I would be calling.
This interaction was bizarre, unnecessary, and wildly unprofessional.
As somebody that frequents this restaurant quite alot, it's disappointing that a leader is so disrespectful towards their customer. I will take my business, both personal and professional to another restaurant, and be sure it's not owned by the same ownership group.
I will also urge my friends and associates to...
Read moreMy wife and I recently went for Sunday Brunch! We had searched all morning for a good spot around town–to no avail. We decided, after stopping by three different spots, that we’d check out Paul Martin’s brunch menu online. We initially thought it might be a little too pricey, but when we looked at the menu, it boasted surprisingly low prices (same price range as places around town with objectively worse food quality overall.) We were so happy we went! First off, our server Tom rocked the freaking house. We’d had a pretty frustrating morning trying to find anywhere to eat with less than a 40 minute wait. Not only was there no wait at all, but Tom greeted us at our table with a big smile and a charming personality that completely put us in a better mood! He was the kind of guy who made it hard not to be happy to be there! He recommended the chicken and waffles among other things. I stubbornly ordered eggs benedict (my desire for eggs benedict having driven me on the search for brunch spots initially) but my wife, wiser woman that she is, took Tom at his word and ordered the chicken and waffles. I was so jealous! The Tapatío maple syrup they paired with the dish was life-changing. My mouth is watering as I remember it. The chicken and waffles were perfect, the syrup was to die for, and the salmon dip we got beforehand was also some straight fire. (It’s worth noting here that Tom went above and beyond by offering extra crackers for the dip when he could tell our dip-to-chip proportions were getting off.) I ordered the salmon benedict, and while the hollandaise left a little something to be desired overall, I will still be going back to order another of Tom’s recommendations next time that Sunday brunch feels right for the wife and I. All in all, a wonderful experience made better by a brilliant server. Can’t wait for...
Read moreOur first time at this establishment and definitely the LAST. My mother and I were happy to be seated quickly only to be surprised at the fact they sat us at a table that already had a gross water glass on it and my side of the table was sticky. If that wasn't enough our waitress seemed highly disinterested and very unsatisfied she had to work at all, let alone serve us. She got us our drinks fairly quickly and we ordered our food and my mother wanted to try one of the alcoholic beverages. Our food took a good while to reach us and we never received the alcoholic drink my mother ordered the whole service. Our food was gross and highly overseasoned. My mom got the chicken parm which came with some pasta and the pasta was SPICY. Way too overseasoned. I got a classic burger and while the burger was mediocre my fries were like eating sticks of pure pepper and it came out with some sort of Chipotle sauce instead of ketchup? Which we had to ask for. My mom consistently had to ask for refills and when she did our waitress seemed to make sure to assure us it was making her extra annoyed. After our meal we were hoping we could redeem the night by getting a slice of chocolate cake for desert. The slice of cake was incredibly slim for $8.50, I could buy a better hearty slice of cake from the local Safeway and the Safeway cake would taste BETTER. The cake was incredibly too rich, so rich in fact that it wasn't even sweet and the raspberry sauce at the bottom of the plate it came on made it so sour it was almost inedible. Overall for both my mother and I it was a $85 check, way way overpriced for barely mediocre food and a lousey expierence with an annoyed and personality lacking waitress and overseasoned and lacking taste meal. We will not be coming back and this place does NOT deserve all of the hype it is getting just...
