Been going here for a while now and feel like I can write an honest review. The customer service is very good and friendly. Atmosphere is just ok but a bit bland. Their menu board needs some serious updating. Some parts of it are almost unintelligible. The store front is often dirty and is a gathering point for the homeless. Now, the food. While the varieties that I have tried are obviously baked that same day, many of them seem to be dried out and not squishy and the glaze\icing flakes off because they are too dry. Perhaps they are using an inferior oil or butter. I've tried several donut shops and so far the only place that has the skill to make a top tier donut is the new Dragonfly Donut shop at College Oak Dr. and Auburn Blvd. With that being said, the apple fritter is crispy and yummy but could use a few more apples in it. The raised varieties feel like they are left out to dry too long. The cakes are a bit too crumbly. Again, it could be the butter or oil they use. The breakfast sandwiches use a croissant that is dried, completely smashed with almost no volume or flavor. I haven't tried the muffins as I believe they would be just like the cake donuts. I've had the coffee a few times and it is basic and without flavor. Conclusion, the store as a whole seems like the owners are barely able to stay open and the food is you get what you pay for. Hopefully, they will make some much needed changes in the future and I will update...
Read moreSome of the best donuts I have had since moving to CA!
Ever since we moved here from the mid-west, my husband and I have been searching for something like home but the shops out her just don't compare, until now.
We have never had a pastry that we did not like. Each dough that they make is masterfully made and the old-fashioned donuts have to have some sour cream in them; simply delicious! My husband loves apple fritters and he says that this is the best one he has ever had. We make a stop once a month to treat ourselves but trust me it would be much more if we didn't have some self control.
Next time you need a donut fix make sure to stop at 16th...
Read moreBEST APPLE FRITTER IN ALL OF SACRAMENTO!! It needs to be shouted from the rooftops. I have tried a lot of local donut spots like Marie's (not enough apple) and New Roma Bakery (I like their savory breads and coffee cakes better than their donuts). This is truly the standout winner. See photos for big chunks of apples. Yes! This is the place!
1st visit: Excellent apple fritter--crunchy outer folds, soft inside and a solid layer of cooked apple throughout. Nice butter bar--like a maple bar but with an old fashioned donut. Good cake donut and twist. Everything was soft and delightful. Friendly service....
