Went to a concert here recently. The tickets I purchased made it clear that the venue had a clear bag policy, usually when I see this I will look up other rules for the venue, which I did this time as well. No other restrictions were posted on either the ticket or venue site. So I showed up at the venue with a clear bag. Here’s where I hit a snag that really just soured my entire night.I have social anxiety and packed my usual medication for the occasion. Now I don’t always take this because 1 I avoid crowds when possible, and 2. Sometimes the crowd and setting are open enough that I don’t need to take it because I’m not surrounded by people. Well I go to check my bag and they stop me because of my medication, to be expected and I am fully prepared for it because every other music event I have gone to they do the same check. I explain what the medication is for, that it’s prescribed, and offer my ID (which they did not ask for) to validate that they are mine. They go and grab a manager who comes up and explains to me that they don’t want any medications brought into the venue, proceed to ask me when I took it last and if I need it, and suggest that I store it in my car 3 blocks away. To which I respond that I’m not sure if I will need it since it’s situation social anxiety, that I haven’t taken it recently because I avoid large crowds and that I will not be walking it back to my car. I suggest that I can leave it in like a security lock box or something to that effect since this was posted anywhere that I was not able to bring my prescription mental health medications. The manager then says “you’re really making my job difficult” and said I could leave them with her since she is a manager. Just the icing on the cake. I apologized, but looking back this was their own fault for making it difficult. Got into the venue and of course there was weed, cigarettes, and vapes everywhere, but god forbid my meds be the problem. The rest of the venue was great. Music sounded fantastic, people were polite, and the venue was more or less spacious. When I went to reclaim my medication from the manager I had left them with she responded with oh so and so has them. Not only did I not know this so and so person, but she had specifically told me she would have them. So quite disappointed by the venue staff who said I couldn’t have my mental health medications with me for an event even though it was not posted as a rule anywhere I checked and that my medications were not handled or stored safely as I had been told...
Read moreI attended a Christmas concert held in the auditorium. it was my first visit And I loved it. The Acoustics Where such That I heard every word.
The building shows its age with creaky floors and a decor from a different age Which I found Which I found to be very charming.
I use a walker to get around. by policy they did not allow us By policy they did not allow us to keep Use the check system. I thought it might take a long time to get my walker back after the concert but rhat was not the case. it took about 5 minutes to get it back It took about 5 minutes to get it back.
My only criticism is not something that can be fixed without reengineering downtown Sacramento. the auditorium takes up an entire city block. a good lead portion of the streets around the building are one way with the auditorium on the left as you go around the building. I came by bus and in order to not have everybody climb out of the bus into the middle of the street, our driver had to pull off in an area that I don't think is an actual drop-off place. We then had to walk around the building to the entrance on the entirely other side of the building in the...
Read moreWent to my granddaughters dance competition here. It's an older building in down town Sacramento. Metered on-street parking makes it a little inconvenient - having to feed a parking meter every couple of hours at an all day event, but there are lots across the street that you can park in. We needed to park at the curb because we had TONS of stuff and bags to carry inside, one person pregnant with issues and 4 children. Seating o the floor was all level, not terraced which makes it bad trying to see over others heads if they're a taller torsoed person. The floor was wooden and every time someone walked by, or more often ran by, because the event was a dance competition full of kids, the floor and seats would bounce. Not my favorite place for an event like this. The facility itself was clean inside, bathrooms were clean and everything seemed nice enough otherwise. The only thing I didn't like at all, was having to walk in and out with children past drug addict homeless people that were pacing around nearby. One spewing filthy profanities, without being provoked, at one of the other women from our studio. Children do not need to be...
