My new favorite taqueria! They pay attention to blending and balancing their spices at this place! The meats are moist and flavorful and taste great whether they be in tacos, burritos, quesadillas or in bowls. Their crispy chicken tacos are amazing. The chicken has a mild, but full garlic flavor, so bring mints if you're on a date!). The tacos is delightfully crispy and provides that nice, mouth-feel texture contrast against the filling. It comes with their regular mild salsa, but you can sub it out their fire sauce, which i recommend if you like to spice it up. My only complaint is that the last time I ordered the crispy chicken tacos is that the tortilla was slightly thinner than last time so it broke more easily and didn't hold to the end.
My boyfriend is a street taco al pastor kind of guy. When he likes something, he sticks with it. The meat is flavorful and tender. The cilantro and onions are chopped fresh. Their guacamole is mixed with lemon (or maybe lime) so it doesn't turn that yucky brown so quickly if you are having to wait to eat it. This comes with fire salsa and fresh chips.
This little place offers online ordering and when you check out, it tells you when your meal will be ready. The employees have been nice and friendly and the cooks are quick and, so far, been accurate with my orders. Give this place a try. It's worth the walk/bike ride/drive. They do offer outdoor tables under...
Read moreThe staff attitude at Taqueria Jalisco was very disappointing. Cheap food. Shoddy service. Tired workers. Count your change carefully.
I left the house with a very specific amount of cash in my wallet for night out with friends. My friends ended up paying for my drinks, so I hadn't spent any when we got to the taqueria. I knew exactly how many bills I had and what kind. After I made and paid for my order, I sat down and chatted with friends. Then I checked my receipt and noticed I had been given back an incorrect amount of change. I had paid with a 20, but only been given back enough for if I had paid with a 10. I explained to the cashier who served me what happened and for my change back.
I wasn't rude. I didn't have any attitude. Just like, "I'm sorry but it seems you made a mistake. Could you check this please?"
She was completely indifferent and even seemed to think I was lying. WHY would I lie about something so petty? I felt embarrassed even to point it out. She didn't offer any sort of recourse or way to confirm. Like, you work the register.. dont you count it at the end of the shift to make sure it all adds up? Is it so hard to follow up on this kind of claim?
After that I really wanted to rip the tip I had left out of the jar, but left it as is and didn't make more of it.
It's cheap food so I feel like I shouldn't be complaining, but being treated like that was really...
Read moreFirst visit. Pretty dang good al pastor burrito—savory al pastor, lettuce, pico de gallo (I also added guac.) There's rice and beans but it accounts for maybe 1/4 the ingredients, whereas many other taquerias like to fill their burritos with more than half with rice and beans that leaves you bloated. This burrito was solid. It didn't drip all over my hands, felt dense in my hands, and had good mouthfeel. Holding back 1 star because of the price. $11 for an al pastor burrito, and you've gotta go out of your way in Midtown to get it.
I've been meaning to try Jalisco and I'd say it's worth going back, especially if you're with a crew looking to have a few drinks.
Alcohol is definitely emphasized here. In fact, when I walked up to the ordering window, there was no food menu to be found (I just blurted out "al pastor burrito" since I had heard it was good, no need for a menu). But there were 3 different signs advertising some alcohol specials. ¯(ツ)/¯
I'll be back to try other stuff on the menu (which I could only find online), but if you're just looking for a solid al pastor burrito closer to $9-10 without heading off the beaten path of Midtown and adjacent neighborhoods, you'll likely be just as satisfied with Chando's, Jalapeños, Midtown...
