I ordered a large phở tái with beef on the side and cooked bean sprouts. My phở came out with meat already cooked and with raw bean sprouts. They didn't give me a soup spoon, water, or tea. I didn't want to make a big fuss, so I kept it.
It would have been okay, but the waitress came over to say she was sorry the beef wasn't rare. I nodded and told her that the sprouts were also raw, not cooked as requested. She tried to tell me they were cooked, and I left it there. I didn't want to engage anymore.
The food was good, but the service was not. So, don't tip when you pay at the counter. Bring cash and tip accordingly afterward. I wished I did because I generously tipped 15% when I paid before I got my food. Big mistake!
Final note: they've been at this location since the '90s, at least, and they don't seem to care much about customer service since they already have their state workers base. At least, that's the feeling I got when...
Read more$8.99 banh mi sandwich. Is this the best value lunch in the grid?! HUGE portion. Lots of meat inside. Packed with pickled veggies and fresh herbs. Sliced jalapeño for kick. I tried pork and chicken today--and had a hard time finishing two halves plus I have an entire sandwich for tomorrow! Pork is probably my favorite since it is flavorful and moist. Chicken was a close second, leaner but also great. Bread was perfect and fresh. Guy at the register was talkative and friendly. I saw the woman in the kitchen listening for my order. By the time I paid, both my sandwiches were ready and wrapped to go in the window. I am so impressed with their service--especially for lunchtime it was so speedy! They accept cash and card payments. And convenient bike parking...
Read moreA convenient Vietnamese restaurant in downtown Sac. The food is authentic (vietnamese chefs), and given that there aren't many Asian restaurants in this area, it's a nice hole-in-the-wall to have.
I usually get the sandwiches, but their pho is decent. I like their chicken/pork bun mei ($10). It's a bit on the pricey side, but it is downtown. Duc Huong (in South Sac) is the best, but this one is comparable. Spring rolls are okay. It's been a while since i tried the pho, but it's quite popular.
Outside can be a bit sketch, so go with a few friends/co-workers if you can.
But I like that you can call, and it's a pretty speedy pickup if they aren't too busy. Hope the pictures of the various lunch menu help, and...
