I am writing a review to give Mikuni a second chance and I was not surprised, I should have listen to myself the first time around. I had ordered the spicy tuna roll and the Carmen lobster roll and this is what I was given (see picture below). I was expecting a super fresh spicy tuna roll with a nice kick of spicy but was let down. The spicy tuna was murky and very oily, and had one piece of cucumber. I was really expecting a fresh tasting tuna with a nice mixture of blended spicy; all I got was old tasting tuna mixed with the little spicy that had no flavor. The carmen lobster roll I paid 21$ for and I was really excited to try it, it had deep fried lobster and had crab mix on top with a mixture of sauces. I was expecting my lobster to be fresh, crispy and warm but ended up getting soggy, bland and tough lobster inside the roll. The crab mix was super salty, and had to douse the crab mix in their sauce as it was overwhelmingly salty; The ends of the lobster roll actually had no lobster in it, I was left with two pieces of roll that just had soggy batter in between the roll. Mikuni had many sushi chefs and all they could have done was at least make sure the quality was on point.. they did not disappoint. I will not be back as my expectations were not met. I was expecting fresh and crispy sushi rolls, not soggy and cold sushi. I gave Mikuni another chance and I should have followed my gut instinct. The food could have been quality checked prior, they had many sushi chefs at their arsenal, they failed to redeem themselves, maybe itās the midtown location, I am not sure, I will be taking my sushi cravings...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've always wanted to try sea urchin. My Polynesian heart yearns for it.
I made a promise with my dad as a young child to try it with him. He passed away, but I still held true. This spot let me experience something truly mundane but very special. I tried sea urchin. It was glorious and better than I ever could have expected.
Litterally, the only downside is how busy it was. I can see why, but I'm autistic and it was hard to handle with how loud everyone was there. I've never been to Sacramento before. Maybe that's just how everything is? Idk.
We got two plates of fresh sake (salmon) and some yellow tail nigiri. My lover got the mafia roll and, eel nigiri and salmon roe. I got the rainbow roll, uni, and a California roll. My love also ordered edamame and miso soup. I, too, got a miso soup and a california roll for a starter.
The food was stupendous. Funny thing, the waitress told us the miso soup was salty that day, but I thought it wasn't salty enough š. The salmon was so tiny! Definently not what I'm used to. It wasn't the best salmon I've ever had, but it was still better than most. 8/10 for the salmon. It's still really good.
Also, I got this drink, a lychee vodka thing. It says bute the button if you dare, and I dared and had a mild allergic reaction to it. I suppose I'd never have known I couldn't have that thing if I hadn't tried it? It didn't make my mouth go numb. It was sour and on fire :] So, yay.
The rolls were delicious, and the uni was creamy and wonderful. The Ikura / Salmon roe was...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI wish I could give it zero stars but the system wont let me. Some of the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I have ever experienced. Our waitress (Brittney) forgot to put in one of the rolls from our very simple order. Rather then bring the rest of the order and let us know what happened she said nothing. A couple sat at the table next to us at least 20 minutes after we ordered. They their entire complicated order before our order came out. When we asked the waitress about it she said she was having the kitchen remake our order since the part that was ready had been siting there for so long she said she could pack it up to go. If we had wanted to take it to go we would have ordered that way when we arrived. When we talked to the manager (Dresden) about what happened before we left he did not even offer anything such as a give card to come back for hopefully better service. He only said he would talk to her and that said he hopes we will come back and give them another chance. After being there for about an hour we had to leave to get lunch else where. We ended up going to Bento Box down the street that had way better service. We will defiantly not be returning to Mikuni's any time soon who knows it could be years if we ever decide to try there horrible customer service again. If you want sushi I recommend going somewhere else unless you are not that hungry and are willing to take the chance on waiting an hour+...
