This Petra location has survived the times while most of the other eateries in the neighborhood haven’t. The food is not the best ever Mediterranean but also far far cry from being bad. It’s a solid weekday lunch option.
My go tos are the beefteki (that’s how they spell it on the menu), pork souvlaki, and Greek salad. But yes even those are hit n miss. At times, the beefteki can be a bit mushy, cooked through but mushy and fall apart. Some pork souvlaki cuts can be fatty gristle. Pricing is a bit higher, than other like establishments in the burbs. However this joint is not in the burbs, it’s in midtown Sacramento.
The place can get super busy during lunch. They do take online and call in orders. The times that I walk in to place an order, I wait near the cash register so I can hear the staff call out my order name. It’s loud in there especially with a full house of customers and the noise from the open kitchen. If you don’t pick up your order quick enough, they just leave it at the counter for anyone to take. I’ve had my orders...
Read moreAte here yesterday for the first time and was really impressed by the portions and quality. The lady at rhe register was nice too. Called in an order for a chicken gyro and a salad. Said it very clear. Showed up and the gentlemen, who seemed to be the manager handed me my order, it was a salad. I said "I think this is someone else's order" he said no tbisbis for Travis. I said I ordered a chicken gyro and a salad. He said this is a a chicken gyro salad. So I said again I wanted a chicken gyro and a salad. He got angry and said sell there must have been a misunderstanding, and then judt stared back at the salad like I should take it, so I said I am in a hurry, please just give me my money back. So he ignored me and told the cooks to make it immediately. They threw the whole meal together in about 30 seconds. It was half the size of the day before (if that). Also they charged me almost 13 dollars. The combo with a soda I had the day before was around 11....
Read moreIf you want delicious Greek food, do yourself a favor and EAT AT PETRA GREEK!!! We tried this establishment this evening and I must say, we will definitely be back. The restaurant is located on a pretty busy street; we utilized metered street parking as it was the first thing we saw. There may be other parking in the vicinity but the street parking was most convenient. The restaurant is rather small, with a walk up counter and perhaps 10 tables total. The menu offers a decent variety of Greek dishes. My husband had the gyro with fries, while I had the chicken souvlaki plate (with rice, Greek salad, pitas, and tzatziki). Our children sampled from our plates. We also shared the saganaki appetizer (which is garnished and flambeed table side, to the delight of our boys). Everything was wonderful!! The prices were great considering the serving size and quality of the food. We left full, with enough food leftover for lunch tomorrow. This place...
