Would give zero stars if I could. Absolute customer service nightmare... Popped in real quick on my way to work. Ordered from the list of specials, and while the lady was making my sandwich I grabbed some chips and candy and went to the desk to pay. I asked the guy at the counter if I could just pay for everything now since I was in a bit of a hurry. He said that I had to wait till my sandwich was done so he could see the price. I told him I ordered straight off the menu and it said $13.99. He said in a rude way that the price might be different if I had the sandwich heated or something, I said I didn't, I ordered the sandwich as is, so it should be $13.99. It felt like he was insinuating that I was lying about the price or something, which is rude, but whatever. I reiterated that I was just in a but of a hurry so could he please just ring me up now. He said "well, that's our policy and I am in a hurry too."

There was NO ONE else in the store. He was saying it for no other reason to be rude.

So I just looked at him, thinking I could.collect my thoughts or he might just be nice and ask the girl making my sandwich what I ordered. But he just walked away from me and said Cancel the order and I was like "what?" And he said "I don't want to serve you".

I couldn't believe it. And neither could the girl who was halfway through making my sandwich at this point. She also just looked at him, like WTH, and then i left with no lunch.

Honestly it would be super simple for them to come up with a way to handle that more efficiently. They girl making the sandwich could write up a simple ticket with the price, or he could've just asked her. She was right there. Instead he was incredibly...

There is so much to say about this Deli it's insane. First off, I have never been to a deli until I was taken to this one over a year ago.

I only ever order two things and depends on the time of day I walk in. Before 11 am I order a Ham, cheese and egg croissant (HIGHLY recommend!) or a Deli Club on sliced white after 11 am. I only order these because every. Single. Time. It's incredible. The food is honestly amazing. Despite it being slammed pack at lunch (Not the Deli's fault! Only because they're so great people flock to here at lunch!) the staff is incredible. I am sorry if I chop anyone's name!

Pepe is honestly one of the friendliest people I have ever met. He only ever intends to take care of the customer. What it seems like is that no matter what do you go he'll be there! He's incredibly customer oriented and asks me how I'm doing everytime I see him.

I have a terrible memory however Allison I believe absolutely seals the deal with my entire experience everytime I go. It doesn't matter what day it is she lights up with the brightest smile and greets me with "How's it going? Usual today?".

Honestly the food is enough to make me return, however it's the staff that really drives me to come back.. Every.. Day.

I highly recommend this spot! Cause I know when I go why am I spending so much on food I have to tell myself "I need to cut back on Pennisi's Deli" haha.

Thank you guys for everything! I'm sure I'll see...

I really wanted to like this place since it's so close to my office and appears to be family owned, so I've kept going there thinking my experience would be different. Unfortunately, it's always the same. On the rare occasion that they feature a meatless sandwich, I've tried them and found the deli workers incredibly grumpy. If I made sandwiches all day, I probably wouldn't be happy either, so I've let that go. Today I stopped in for a drink and bag of chips. When the man was done reading his newspaper, he came to the counter to ring me up. I gave him my card and he said "cash only". I didn't bring cash, so I told him never mind. As I was walking out the door, I asked why they had a visa/MasterCard sticker on the door. He gestured for me to come back inside and then pointed at a sign that said $10 minimum. Now I know he's able to speak because he told me no cash, so I don't know why he couldn't have told me that when I was paying or why we're were playing the mime game now - I would have just spent more money. I guess it was easier to be rude. I walked next door to subway where I was greeted by friendly staff and bought the exact items I had picked out at pennisi's, and was able to pay...

EDIT: I love the Spanish-speaking deli counter man he is SO NICE! I bought a loaf of bread at the Capitol Mall WED farmers' market and stopped on my way home for deli meat. The Deli Man told me they make a sándwich with mortadela, coppa and provolone cheese so it's a good combo. He even told me to use Italian dressing on my bread loaf to make it taste good. I bought 1 lb. of everything he recommended plus some chips. I made a delicious sándwich for lunch --and many more to come, thanks to him. 1st VISIT: Cute deli. Awesome that they serve wine inside. Sausage egg and cheese bagel was decent for $9.99 + tax. Served only before 11 am. The egg was cooked spongy-style like how you get at fast food restaurants. I wished for a regular fried egg, but that's okay some people prefer that way. Friendly service. Nice selection of European and UK cookies and snacks like Biscoff, Walker's shortbread, Ritter Sport, etc. Imported chocolate bars $5-6. Apples and bananas. I'll be back for a glass of wine with lunch someday. 😉

I must have walked a mile to get to Pennisi's Deli...but I'll tell you, it was worth it! My old pal Grouper Causeway from my stompin around days was going up to Alaska to pan some gold and do a little fishing, he's got a cabin up there and there's a big population of bears where he is. He tells me he's got a S&W 50 on a hip slinger and a slug pumper for just on case, but needs a new igniter for his surplus Flamethrower, so I'll just take him one because I've got some extras. He was sure happy to get one, and tells me nothing scoots a bear faster than a little napalm on it's hind end. Let's go to Pennisi's Deli he tells me...they've got the best sandos in Sactown. And he was right! ☆☆☆☆☆

The cook was pleasant, but the owner was a bit gruff. In fact, he claimed both of our corporate cards were declined. We ended up paying using alternative payment methods. Although the food was amazing, the shop's lack of service with our cards was subpar. The lox bagel was delicious! I called our card company to see why our cards were declined, and they said it was flagged by the shop as fraud but not by them. I recommend paying with cash or debit card. I also recommend that if the shop doesn't prefer credit card payments, to just place a notice of payment methods accepted and /or add a surcharge to cover the processing fees. I am sure many patrons would gladly pay.
