started with the Asi Sabe Mexico, translated to ‘That’s Mexico’ on the check, a Watermelon and Cucumber Cocktail made with Blanco Taquilla, Lime, and a Tajin rim served in a short glass. It was light and refreshing on the first sip but very cucumber heavy and continued to linger well after. It was too much cucumber and I did not finish the drink. I returned 3/4ths of the drink when I ordered something else. It was $11 and was included on the bill. *(I know businesses are struggling with staffing and financing so I did not say anything- I was happy to know it added to the bill and tip the server received)* I switched to a Paloma. It was served in a pint glass with a salt rim. $10. Delicious! We started with a small Guacamole for $9.99. It was made with nice chunks of avocado. It lacked a bit of lime but was very fresh. It was served with a side of Salsa and fresh Tortilla Chips. The Salsa was very good and if you only want the Chips and Salsa they are $3.75. We got a refill of chips and we’re not charged for them. For dinner I had Chile Relleno en Crema de Epazote y Camarón. $18.25. A poblano pepper stuffed with crab and shrimp. I substituted the white rice for the Cilantro Rice and I think that was my mistake. The Cilantro Rice was very good but more wet like a Risotto. The dish was topped with a very tasty cream sauce but might have been over powered or lost within the rice. One of my companions ordered the Carne de Puerco en Salsa Verde. $18.25. They said the Pork was cooked perfectly and the Salsa Verde had a strong lime flavor. They also substituted the white rice for the Cilantro rice. We both agreed the dish might have been better as designed on the menu with the white rice. They also had the Asi Sabe Mexico and agreed it had a heavy cucumber flavor. They did however finished their drink. The last of our party ordered the Tacos Poblanos de Arrachera. $16.95. Steak Tacos in blue corn tortillas, with sliced and grilled poblano peppers. They said they were good but wished the flank steak had been salted further. They ordered a Passion Fruit Frozen Margarita with a salt rim and said it was delicious! (Price unknown as we split the check) This restaurant gets a lot of praise and maybe My expectations were set my too high because everything on the menu was a traditional Mexico dish. Overall 7 out of 10.

This place was selected for a Tuesday (6/25) evening get together for a group of 8. I personally have never been here before and was very much looking forward to it. Based on reviews, it sounded like it shouldn’t disappoint. But did it? Here’s how it went: The dining hall is super inviting with artwork on the walls. There’s a full bar in the back which is where our table was. We were seated upon arrival since we had a reservation. Our server was nice and was able to answer all our questions. Our drinks arrived within 10 minutes upon ordering. The drinks were very good. My spicy margarita was on par with other highly rated margaritas I’ve had in other areas. Our food order took probably about 15 minutes or so to be served hot from the kitchen. My enchiladas turned out very good. The one with green sauce tasted the best. Other folks around the table enjoyed what they ordered as well. Some of us did order the Vertical Tequila - 3 0.5 oz 1/3 shot of Blanco, Reposado, and Anejo. The Blanco and the Reposado tasted the best. Service was mostly good. Our server did disappear at one point and we needed to ask for him to order dessert. Our dinner for the evening with tax and tip came to about $85 which included two drinks, dessert, and the main course. So how did Mayahuel score? Here it is: Ambiance 5/5. Service 3/5. Food 4/5. Drinks 5/5. Value to price ratio 4/5. Overall experience 4/5. While Mayahuel didn’t disappoint, it didn’t exceed expectations. The food was good but not amazing. The drinks were very good and on par with other high end drinks I’ve had. The service fell short of expectation. We did feel ignored at times and had to ask for our server. He disappeared for some reason. Expect to pay a premium for the dining experience. Make sure you’re with good company to make it worthwhile. Over all, it was enjoyable and can recommend dining here. Arrived at Mayahuel on K Street at around the lunch rush. As greeted by the waiter and then taken to the table where I was offered water and any other drink I asked which was a Coke. My server then arrived, greeted me and asked what would I like to select, I did not have anything in mind yet as I was still browsing through the menu. I politely asked for chips and salsa , waiter asked if I wanted guacamole and I replied with a nod. Chips and salsa were good with the salsa being a bit spicy which I liked as well as the guacamole had a nice a creamy texture just simply melts in your mouth. Shortly after the food arrived and the presentation was appealing to the eye, even the rice was in a pyramid design on the plate. I went and tried the beans aka “Frijoles Charros” and it was a bit undercooked but was not the best first impression. The rice was next and that made me not enjoy it as you can taste that it was salty. So as anyone does I went then for the steak aka “Arrachera”. I went with the first cut of the steak and it was difficult to cut and very chewy when I put it in my mouth nevertheless the flavor and juiciness was there which was pleasant. Finally I went for the green enchilada and that by far was the best on the plate. The shredded chicken was moist and soft. The lettuce on there tasted fresh. Overall my Experience at Mayahuel was mixed and being a Hispanic myself I put that to the side and went with just how my mouth perceived every taste. They are said to be a Mexican Cuisine which in fact they are right on some levels but on others they are a bit far from reaching that goal. The overall aesthetic of the restaurant felt like home. They do have a large tequila selection and if that’s what you are into maybe this is the right place for you as they also have tequila tastings. Overall 3 out of 5 stars will try again sometime to in my end of the year review to see where it stands.

Honestly it was really meh… they had something about being Michelin star rated, but it was incredibly underwhelming and over priced for mediocre inauthentic Mexican food. The music was too loud; we couldn’t hear each other speak. The small beautifully plated Pollo Guajillo dish with less than 6oz of dry chicken and overdone mushrooms was soooo salty I couldn’t wash it down with 2 cups of water. We then ordered dessert for a friends b-day, but the ice cream was rock solid and we couldn’t dig into it. It was a small (tiny) 1 scoop for $8. The Mango cake was good only at the meringue, the sponge was rather dry. The flan was really thin and dense, far from the authentic creamy Mexican flan with caramel sauce. This half an inch flan seemed have been left out uncovered in the fridge for 3days then sprinkled with granulated sugar before serving. The alcohol was strong enough on the old fashioned thankfully. The BIGGEST reason for the low stars aside from the inauthentic, salty, dry food, was the fact that the dining tables in the reservation section are PLASTIC FOLD OUT PICNIC TABLES! ( Lifetime brand) Them tables were old and raggedy and the food tilted because the center folding piece wasn’t locked in correctly… 🤦🏻♀️🤦♂️ just look at the table legs if you make a reservation here. Legit they put lipstick on a pig and said good enough! 🤪 I genuinely recommend to avoid this place… if the food was good I wouldn’t care about the price or aesthetic.. I can eat a good taco standing near the side of the road if it’s worth it, so I’m not picky about aesthetics…But the food was so mediocre and so was the restaurant set up overall. They had nothing worthwhile to offer.

Corporate style restaurant-group-owned Mexican restaurant. Sat at the bar. The bartender (young guy) was super friendly and helpful. Lots of info on tequila they carry. Chips and salsa right away. $10 margarita tasted good, but did have a lot of ice. Maybe that's why it's less expensive than other cocktails, but fair. The paloma was nice. I prefer a little sweeter, but maybe I am used to Squirt instead of grapefruit juice. Chips just okay, salsa was tasty and so was the guacamole. Everything turned when a new staff (waitress? bartender?) came and asked us if we wanted another drink. Since we drank our cocktails quickly and still had water, we said no thank you. We were taking our time to decide what to order, talking, etc. She came back, asking "Are you finished?" hurrying us to order something else or get the bill. We were still eating the food we ordered! So I said we were done and she brought the bill fast with a gruff attitude. Definitely felt off. She said the words "Have a good night" but never looked us in the face. Either she had a problem with us or she needs hospitality training. It was Tuesday at 7pm. The bar was literally empty besides us two and one other customer. Absolutely no need to rush or push us out. Without the attitude, we would have stayed longer and ordered more. Started nice, but ended as an unpleasant experience.

I brought my niece here for dinner...and was so glad I did. You can sit out on the fully covered patio or inside. We opted for inside. The staff was so wonderful and attentive. Our server was the best...he was wonderful. They took our drink order right away as we looked over the menu and decided to try the chicken enchiladas with each of them having a different sauce so we can try it...and the carnitas de atacheo de regalado michoacan...boy are we glad we did. We both shared the plates some can try everything. The enchiladas were amazing. One had mole sauce..omg...the mole was absolutely divine. I could have dipped everything in that. One had the Chile Verde sauce which was also amazing. And one had this black sauce that we found out was a corn fungus sauce that takes an acquired taste. I can do without that one. The carnitas plate comes with tender mound of carnitas...their beans...oh my..the best beans I have ever eaten...Pico ...guac...choice of tortillas and another sauce that was amazing. If you want to go to a place that the staff is wonderful...and the food is absolutely incredible...this food is wonderful...I am already planning on coming back and trying other dishes...
