Star Lounge Sacramento has the best crème brûlée ever
ValerieValerie
Historic Star Lounge is located in the Hyatt House in Midtown and I'm so glad I stumbled upon this gem. I had a date night here and from the moment we walked in the hostess checked us in and sat us right away. I would recommend making reservations as I was told it can get crowded later on. The bar/lounge area was very welcoming and mellow. Antique chandeliers hung around, gold mirrors surrounded the interior walls and dim lamps occupied the tables. Also they have an open window that overlooks Sutter's Fort. We were greeted by one of the friendliest servers who went through the menu with us. He never rushed us and checked up quite frequently to make sure everything was okay. We ended up getting the two person dinner special, which included: gazpacho, roasted chicken and a dessert (I think it was a deconstructed lemon meringue sorbet) Everything was delicious! From the portions to flavor, the chefs really deserve recognition for the menu! After we were done they asked if we wanted to take home the chicken carcass to make to make broth when we get home. They didn't have to go out out of their way to package that for us but we were both very appreciative and thanked them for the wonderful dinner. I will definitely be back and I highly recommend coming here for the food, drinks and atmosphere!

For context I dined in on Valentine's day, it was definitely busy so I cannot completely fault the service. I reserved bar seating for 1 to treat myself, and I felt like I was being pushed to the side. I noticed people who had sat at the bar after me were getting attended to more quickly and checked in on more frequently than I was. I don't know if it was because I was alone, but it did ruin the experience a bit. It felt like I was begging for someone to glance at me so I could place an order for food. I noticed upon seating I was placed right next to where they were bussing glasses, which would be fine if it wasn't directly next to another table where the waiters needed squeeze past my chair every time. Definitely not the staff's fault, but it made the overall ambience stuffy and felt like I was in the way. Food and drink wise I got the "what a girl wants" martini off the valentines special menu, for the price it was just okay, the chocolate covered strawberry was a cute touch. I got the wagyu steak for the main, it was flavorful and the creamy spinach was a nice side. But I don’t think it was good enough to justify the price. Overall, would not dine here alone again, however I do still think this is a nice place to come with a small group.

Sunday, 1/28/2024 - Went to try Historic Star Lounge (inside the Hyatt Hotel, 3rd floor). Address is 2719 K St, Sacramento, CA 95816 (Midtown). Upon arrival...

Pros

  1. it's street parking. I didn't see that they had their own parking. But they do have valet parking. I parked across the street at the park. It's free parking Sunday.
  2. I walked into The Hyatt abs the lady at the front desk let me know the restaurant was in the 3rd floor.
  3. they had a nice warm fire going in the fireplace. There was a couch next to it to relax.
  4. took the elevator to the 3rd floor and arrive to the restaurant.
  5. the hostess helped us as soon as we walked in. Very nice hostess. The restaurant is on the dark side. Very intimate and very quiet.
  6. I saw they had a bar. They also put cute, real candles in the table.
  7. restaurant clean. Plates, bowls, cups, utensils were all clean. Water tasted good. No funky or metal taste.
  8. foods were great! Mix Green salad is $16. Dressing was good and salad perfect. 16oz Marv's cut Ribeye was $79 with garlic mash potato. Cooked perfectly and tasted great. Kids chicken and fries, and kids pizza was good. Kids loved it. Dessert was good. They provided a bday dessert on the house. So sweet!!!
  9. service was excellent!! We had like 3 people keep checking on us to make sure we were serviced and happy.

Cons None!

Conclusion I really liked this restaurant. It was a little dark inside though. So I used my cell phone light to read the menu and take food photos. 😆 But besides this, I liked this restatement, service great, restaurant clean, foods were excellent. I'd...

The hotel location, velvet couches and dim lighting got my attention. I have been seeing this place popping up on my IG feed and have to give them a try. We came on a Friday early afternoon for their Happy Hours (3-6pm).

Historic Star Lounge is on the third floor of Hyatt House Sacramento/Midtown. The structure is listed on the Nation Register of Historic Places built by a group of women in 1928. The historic building was transform into an intimate and cozy space. We didn't have any problem finding metered street parking across the street, but I can see this place get busy during dinner and on the weekend.

There are only about 7 food items on the Happy Hour Menu. We got the house wings. It was nicely fried with a tangy flavor. I would skip the Salmon Tartare. It was very good but two tiny pieces for $12! Honestly, it's just bread and a teaspoon of salmon. The side order of truffle fries was very good but not $10 good. Since we didn't see anything we want from HH menu, we ordered the Star Lounge Burger (from dinner menu) on a pretzel bun with all the fixings and aioli sauce. It was delicious! 3.5/5 for the HH food menu because I think they can do better on the portion, price and selection.

The Seasonal Margarita was delicious and heavy handed on the tequila. The specialty cocktails looks interesting and I wouldn't mind coming back to try other cocktails. 5/5 for the drinks/cocktails.

Service was good. I think we arrived here at a good time and got our food and drinks pretty quickly. A great place for date night and...

I so wanted to love this place! It seems so cool! I still like it but..it's so loud for a lounge!!!

I came here with my wife soon after they opened and we had a magical late night cocktail, food, etc. It was beautiful. I loved all the staff and the chef, especially the veg*n friendly options 5/5 ❤️ I kept wanting to come back.

We came back a few months later for a date night, during I guess busy times on a Thursday dinner session at 7pm, and it was SO loud we literally couldn't hear anything. Something about the acoustics in the room may be messed up or something. It ruined the whole date instantly. Maybe we are just old. We left almost immediately. And by 'almost immediately' I mean we asked to leave after we ordered the first thing and then waited the 30 or so mins it took to check us out. I felt like we were a bit rude leaving after ordering one thing without explanation but still.

We have never done this ever before. Maybe we are getting old and grumpy but maybe this place is just too loud. To be determined and your mileage may vary on it. I wouldn't recommend it for a date night any longer if you are in your thirties or older and like your hearing.

Food is great. The appetizers seem really cool and unique.

Drinks are great. Bourbon/whiskey selection is pretty good! I didn't try the mixed drinks but they looked good as well. I can't complain about anything except the noise that I'm still hearing in my ears. Louder than...
