"The Morning Fork" is to breakfast as Napa Valley is to some fine wine. The hype is real about this very popular greasy spoon, hole-in-the-wall Midtown Sacramento breakfast joint. Having been opened since mid-2019, this is one of Sacramento's top place to enjoy some good old comfort food. It had very big shoes to fill as this was the spot where "The Lucky Cafe" once stood for many years. And to those of you that remember, they were also a very delicious spot for a succulent breakfast.
So it took me nearly 3 years to check this place out. Reason being, work, traveling, then Covid hit and you know how things were so iffy. I finally had the honor of dining here during the late-morning of Sunday 5/22/2022 at around 11:55am. The process is simple as you put your name on the sign-in sheet outside. There was a LOT of people waiting to be seated so its best to prepare yourself for at least an hour wait. Our party was ready to be seated around 12:45pm which is fine by me since this would be my breakfast + lunch = Sunday brunch!
The inside of this place is bigger than it looks with two separate dining rooms as well as a ton of local artwork that flows throughout the restaurant. Just seeing all the art is a treat all in itself. As far as the seating arrangement goes, they have a very extensive bar area with a large counter. In addition, there are a ton of booth in both dining areas. Every square foot is presented very nicely while the yellow-colored walls give this place a bright, cheerful appearance to it.
As I have been reading a ton of reviews from my Yelp buddies, I finally narrowed down as my breakfast of choice. I went with their "Corned Beef Hash" entrée. This was house made corned beef complete with bell peppers, Poblanos, onions, and red-skinned potatoes. I chose my eggs to be cooked over easy. My +1 went with a "Strawberry Waffle" which included salted maple butter and marshmallow cream. We both settled with iced waters (since we already had coffee) but they do have a very nice selection of juices, mimosas, beer, Bloody Mary's, and spritzers.
As I mentioned this place was a packed house with every table being occupied by hungry patrons. But from the time we ordered until we received our food took roughly 25 minutes. Not bad considering how much food is being cooked from the kitchen. As far as my corned beef hash, this has got to be one of the best versions I have ever eaten at a restaurant. The corned beef was not overly salty and made from scratch. And they did not skimp on the meat portion as well. When you mix that with a dollop of ketchup, grilled onions, bell peppers, and roasted potatoes, each bite was absolutely savory and delicious. I also tried some of the strawberry waffle and I have to say WOW! The marshmallow cream, melted butter, and syrup really made this waffle stand out in the crowd.
This was my very first time trying "The Morning Fork" and definitely won't be my last. Their breakfast meals live up to the hype, rave reviews, and everything people told me about it. They are open daily from 8am-2pm while offering very fast Wi-Fi just in case you want to stream live on your Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, or TikTok. If you do come during the weekends, expect a bit of a wait. Otherwise, this place was as good as it gets when it comes to a hearty, delicious, and amazing breakfast experience. My rating for The Morning Fork, a...
Read moreOh how I love morning fork. Every time we have out-of-town visitors we go to “the fork,” as I like to call it. We got there a little after one and were worried they wouldn’t be able to seat us, but they’ve recently changed their hours to stay open Saturday and Sunday until 4 PM. We only had to wait a few minutes before we were seated with a party of four. Someone came to us right away for a drink order and even though there were so many options, we made our decisions quickly and the food was out and ready only moments later. The service at this restaurant is incredible. So many places are rude, but this place has the best in the business. Such a refreshing change from most spots I visit in Sacramento and beyond. When our food came out, it was hot, fresh and absolutely delicious. I ordered the side of fruit and it was top notch quality. I usually order the sweet items, but today I opted for something savory: the corned beef hash. As far as my review of my menu item? Best corned beef hash I’ve ever had! I forgot to take a picture of it. It was so good. Everyone in my party cleaned their plates. My friend ordered the eggs benedict and specified how he wanted his hashbrowns done and they accommodated the request. They have iced coffee options, including lavender, rose, pistachio, vanilla, butter toffee and more. My friend ordered a mimosa which he said was great and the kids just opted for water, but there were so many drink options. There’s something for everyone here. The vibe feels very local and festive and family-friendly (yet also hangover-crowd friendly), and the art on the wall is inspiring, especially the art near the bathrooms. You can’t beat the location and parking is easy on the side streets. If you go on the weekend, you could also visit the farmers market or the vintage clothing goods market, depending on the day. I guarantee if you visit the morning fork, you will be a...
Read moreHorrible experience. Terrible customer service. Staff is unkind and unprofessional. I deeply regret giving this restaurant a chance, mostly due to the way i was treated when my order was incorrect. Long story short, I ordered a meal for pick up and found hair in my food along with missing ingredients. When I spoke to the manager on duty Stephanie, she gave me more attitude than help and made rectifying the issue so uncomfortable. She didn’t want to process a refund and then gave me attitude when I couldn’t drive all the way back to the restaurant that same day for a remake because they had already made it. She never apologized for the inconvenience and really tried to place the blame on me and make me feel at fault. Then Stephanie tried to charge me additional after offering to add to the sandwich (I actually thought she was being courteous, but clearly no one in this establishment knows the meaning of that word) - which is crazy because I tipped when I picked up my order so the least they could do was be nice about it. The next day I came and was met with so much animosity. One of the other staff members tried to make it seem like I was mistaken and at fault about my order and completely ignored it being hair garnished with hair, which was my main issue. Even the host who was so fake friendly the previous day had attitude when handing me the bag. I could tell after glancing at the food that they intentionally made the remake meal with less effort, just to be petty and unprofessional. This is a lousy restaurant, I don’t recommend wasting your money here. The staff takes everything personally and will show their true colors if you don’t accept their mistakes as if. To top it off the food...
