First United Methodist Church — Local services in Sacramento

I attend a church that is gathered by and commissioned by Love to be “Love, First,” in a world increasingly characterized by a call for “Power, First.”

It is a multi-generational, multi-gendered, multi-racial, multi-lingual, multi-abled, multi-economic class, joyful and welcoming community of G_d’s Kindom. Sunday morning is an experience of heaven on earth that feeds my spirit for the week ahead and emboldens my strength to live and preserve justice and mercy for all. We draw from the Bible, and the musicians, poets, novelists, political leaders, and theologians across the generations who have lived through perilous times without straying from a vision of love and justice being God’s intention for everyone, even those we call enemies.

I don’t understand why it isn’t what everyone craves and treasures, and especially NEEDS during these days, but if it is what you are looking for, our doors are open to you. Come home to First United Methodist Church, corner of 21st and J Sts in Midtown. We gather at 10am on...

For me a church ... better said all the churches have a special task. Supporting, open, helpful, respectful, patient, not judging ... the list goes on. Born and raised as a Catholic - which I left because all of these attributes are missing - I experienced this church in the heart of Midtown of Sacramento. What should I say ... I am flashed. Yep ... that is a church I like to be. That is a church - the whole people - fulfilling me expectations of church tasks. A funny and up to date pastor ... it is fun to go to the worship here. The church is open for everybody and very supportive to all kind of people. I love this community and their motto "Love first". It is not only a phrase ... it is a fact. Real representatives of God on earth ... which is a loving God. So I was told even by the Catholics. But they are acting different ... Thanks FUMC Sacramento ... my...

Zu meiner Geschichte ... ich bin Katholik und musste Dinge in der katholischen Kirche erleben, die mich dazu brachten die Kirche zu verlassen. Für mich ist der Auftrag der Kirche der Gemeinde zu dienen. Doch kommen wir zu First United Methodist Church (FUMC). Mehr durch Zufall habe ich diese Kirche und Gemeinde besucht ... und bin begeistert. LoveFirst! ... das ist das Motto dieser Glaubensgemeinschaft. Die Gemeinde hat sich auf die Agenda geschrieben, die Ärmsten der Armen zu helfen. Sacramento ist die Hauptstadt der Wohnungslosen ... tausende Homeless streifen durch die Straßen, nächtigen am Straßenrand in Zelten. Die FUMC unterstützt die Obdachlosen mit Kleidung, Essen, Duschgelegenheit ... und das in einer absolut offenen und wertschätzenden Art. Der Gottesdienst in der FUMC macht Spaß, man ist integriert ... Bekanntschaften und Gespräche sind einfach zu finden und zu knüpfen. Ich habe meine Kirche gefunden ... eine Kirche die das LoveFirst! lebt. Ich werde ein Teil dieser phantastischen Gemeinde werden ... sprich ich lasse mich erneut taufen. Und ich werde dieser Gemeinde unter dem Motto LoveFirst! helfen und...
